Music is music. Hardstyle is music. And dubstep is music.
IMO genres are only there to tell you what to expect from a song. Nothing else. Just because one genre is popular doesnt mean it should be off limits from others.
Also the songs listed are hardstyle.
Year of summer is a hardstyle track with house influences.
Quatre mains is a crossover/mash up between hardstyle and dubstep.
Gimmie love is pretty much straight up Hardstyle. Maybe with some trance influences.

the fact that people use the argument "its not genre x so its shit blah blah...." sickens me. Open your fucking mind a little. You dont have to like everything thrown at you called hardstyle. But just cause u dont like it/think its too cheesy or whatever Doesnt mean it isnt hardstyle. Get off your Fucking high horse.

Anyway im rambling and probably off topic now.

Yeah indeed. Anyways the "Listen what u like and let others enjoy" argument is also valid. That's why i'm a bit off from nowadays hardstyle since some months.

Yeah it is still hardstyle, and i really like melodic hardstyle, good, influenced by trance and with many power. But i really dislike hear Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Madonna, or whatever kind of pop music bootlegged into hardstyle. It's what u said in the topic title: Hardstyle is Hardstyle, Dubstep is Dubstep, right? so then POP is POP. Let hardstyle be hardstyle.
Yeah but pop has had it's fair share of Dubstep in it, but it is predominantly Pop so it should remain Pop. Adele could make a really dark ambient Hardstyle track, it's just listening for what could be done with someones unique voice.

I refer to it as nustyle, an abbrevation for nu-hardstyle :)
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?

Do you not like Nustyle at all?

To me, being a fan of Metal aswell its like Heavy Metal is the base genre, then you have Death Metal etc, but at the end of the day it is all Metal.

I am new to making Hardstyle, but I know the Hardstyle you refer to is the really basic sounding stuff which I do like, I know that I could make an older sounding Hardstyle track much easier than a Nustyle track, which to me shows the evolution - alongside the 'Nu' bit :P

Wavelength wrote:Yeah so if you think Noisecontrollers - Gimme Love isn't Hardstyle, what genre would you place it as?
trance with hardstyle influences (bpm, the kick could probably be used in a hardtrance track aswell, even if its much softer than ht). softtrance maybe? :+

it has evolved from hardstyle into something combined with hardstyle, so it isnt really fully hardstyle.
tho its a difference if only like some samples from dubstep is in a hs track, but when it comes to that Nc & pavelow track i talked about earlier, it isn't really hardstyle to 100%, it sounds more like dubstep than hardstyle to me. dubstep influenced with hardstyle=>dubstyle.

I could be terribly wrong but isn't Pavelow just Skrillexs' Hardstyle alias?

Nope, Pavelow is a sideproject from Bas Oskam, who is 50% of the Noisecontrollers ;)

Anyhow, I also think that hardstyle is hardstyle, however, you can't really say that for instance a track like DJ Thera - Stash and a track like Wildstylez & Brennan Heart - Lose My Mind are totally the same genre. They both have certain influences from what's called hardstyle, but I like to refer to the stash type tracks as "underground hardstyle" and to the lose my mind type of tracks as "commercial hardstyle".

Anyhow, I also think that people value genres too much. We all like to label the music we listen to for some kind of reason, put it in certain boxes, whereas in the end of it, most of us like music which is out of the box...

best words I ever read about hs

i don't like that when people call hardstyle every track with hs kick and 150bpm tempo
From the beggining HARDstyle had to be dark and hard. So why nowadays something with hs kick and trance, house or pop (and other genres influences) is called hardstyle? It's not that i don't like tracks with shitty leads, beautiful melodies, singalong breaks etc i really like some tracks like that but i hate when people call tracks like this hardstyle. Probably someone will write something about evolution of style or something like this. BULLSHIT!!!
evolution of hardstyle i can call only that when producers would make tracks with so energy that my legs would takes me to jump in front of my speakers, with so dark atmosphere that i would be scared when i would listen to track in the middle of the night alone in my room. This should be evolution of hardstyle, not to make it softer but HARDER. This is why it is called HARDstyle. If prodecers want to make tracks with gay vocals, singalong break, weak kicks, other, softer genres influences etc. ok do it but please don't call it hardstyle because it isn't then
and this is my opinion about it

this is evolution of genre:
Ed E.T. & D.T.R. - Hardstyle Criminal
Delete - 88mph
Headhunterz - D-Tuned
Alphaverb - Fuck The Nice Guys
Tatanka - Doom's Day (The R3belz Remix)

this is being commercial:
noisecontrollers - gimme love
frontliner - i'm a melodyman
brennan heart & wildstylez - lose my mind
coone - music is art

i can't compare tracks from second group to tracks from first... first don't have cheesy melodies, have hard kicks(specially i don't gived only reverse-bass examples ^^),second,um...,have very very very weak kicks, cheesy melodies... which group is HARDstyle? :) we need oficially split of genre...
From happiest to darkest!
Sorry if i make any mistakes, nobody is perfect.
