Hardstyle is Hardstyle, Dubstep is Dubstep, right?

Post by Wavelength »

Had to make a topic on this, im tired of seeing people saying that Skrillex isn't Dubstep or X isn't a Hardstyle (even heard it being said about Headhunterz).

I want to know where you are coming from when you say this. It seems that if people don't follow the status quo, for example dubstep is 140bpm with a staggered drum beat and wob wobs and wub wubs, and now that Skrillex has took the template and added a few extra sounds and made it a bit more dancey its somehow not dubstep. It is in my opinion, just an evolved kind of dubstep.

I hate this crap with Nustyle, Darkstyle, Etcstyle, at least when its used to say that something isnt HARDstyle.

I don't think it is a bad thing for someone to experiment with adding new sounds as long as the template is still there (ie not trying to make a hardstyle song with a dubstep drum beat lol).

So i challenge this, if Skrillex or whoever isnt dubstep, and whoever isnt Hardstyle - what genre do they belong to then? Pretty much guarantee that you'll be like 'Oh, wait, i guess it is Dubstep then 'cause it doesn't fit into any other genre'

The genere of music evolves over time. Same happen to hardstyle when Brennan Heart and Headhunterz mixed dubstep and hardstyle and did make hardstep and people rage like hell. But the music evoles to survie the. Maybe the people don't like it but get over it. You do not make the music. The artist does and he make what he want to make

Here is an example, there is a hardstyle song that i cant remember the name of that has the exact same robotic voice at the start basically says like 'Initiatic bass kick' etc, this was in a dubstep song first and it was taken from that and added to this song, no one complained it wasn't hardstyle.

I embrace experimentation, whilst i think Dubstyle is SHIT I still think it's best for it to be explored. We would never have Hardstyle if Dance and House music wasn't experimented with.

im sorry but i cant say wildstylez track year of summer or noisecontrollers track gimme love is "hardstyle".
mixing genres together is alright, but if you do like Sweclubberz, using lots of trance and ambient music together with a hardstyle kick and 150 bpm, does it make it hardstyle just because it has a hs kick and the same bpm? while the rest of the track is trance? im not hating on him (i like some of his music) but it is definately not just hardstyle. same with noisecontrollers pavelow quatre mains, it has a hs kick but rest of the track is dubstep, even the climax part or anti-climax w/e we should call it in this track, is actually just dubstep, not even a hs kick here.

hardstyle for me is nice kicks (reverse basslines aswell), screeches, melodies (i prefer not to cheesy or to dark, like the stuff the anarchist does), vocals doesnt matter. and quite many thinks the same, some dislikes melodies at all since ehs didnt really have melodies all the time (was quite rare in the beginning or is it just me who are uneducated in this subject?).

so i rather say if a hs track has lots of dubstep influences, it's dubstyle, not hardstyle. if a track got loads of trance influences, it might be an "evolved" version of the cheesy/euphoric side of hardtrance.

i dont like splitting up genres, but hardstyle 2008-2010 in general didn't have all these elements of other genres (dubstep/trance/house) that much. and i miss those years because then it was at least not so freaking cheesy with popvocals, it was just nice melodies and kicks, the good shit imo.

Yeah so if you think Noisecontrollers - Gimme Love isn't Hardstyle, what genre would you place it as?

I could easily say that there isn't much hardstyle left around since 2007, due to the lack of the elements that were dominant before 2007 like punchy kicks, reverse basslines, tracks without melodies, lack of percussion like hi-hats etc. The genre have made a 180 degree turn since it's inception.
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?

You people and your 'oh no The Prophet would never do that so we can't' mentallity, should we just stick to Vocalists that have done Hardstyle before? Nikkita would love that i'm sure.

Either way, no one has answered my question - what IS going around since 2007 then SCH? Dubstep? Classical? Screamo? Or is it perhaps... still Hardstyle - evolved, like every other genre.

Well, tbh, i really think that the prophet could be really happy if Rihanna wants to do vocals for him or someone in scantraxx, if u know what i mean.

Yeah it is still hardstyle, and i really like melodic hardstyle, good, influenced by trance and with many power. But i really dislike hear Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Madonna, or whatever kind of pop music bootlegged into hardstyle. It's what u said in the topic title: Hardstyle is Hardstyle, Dubstep is Dubstep, right? so then POP is POP. Let hardstyle be hardstyle.
