Underground Hardcore Genre Names
Underground Hardcore Genre Names
Hey guys,
I've been getting more into the underground hardcore genres and I've been hearing different genre names thrown around for what a song is. Can anyone clear up what these genres generally are:
-Industrial Hardcore
-Industrial (I've heard it's technically different)
-Industrial Techno
-Doomcore (I've heard it used for much slower industrial like 100 bpm but then also 130bpm hardcore)
-Darkcore
-Slowcore
Sorry if this isn't in the right location for the topic.

For the roots of hardcore I can offer you this:
http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
The guy who created this said he's going to complete a much fresher version of the guide this year.
I'm not a hardcore expert, but industrial and industrial techno themselves don't really belong to hardcore afaik
And as for doomcore, you're kinda right:

Slowcore? Never heard this term before
Slower HC was always a thing in the Mainstream HC genre (not right now sadly) and Industrial HC was always seen as the slower subgenre.
Darkcore was never an official subgenre
It was just a trendy selling name back in the days for the darker/harder tracks somewhere between Mainstream and Industrial. I call it Maindustrial

Darkcore was never an official subgenre

Ok, I'll try to do a sort of list, with the premise that I don't listen to all the sub genres in the hc spectrum, so I could forget something maybe
As Convicted said, Industrial techno is a techno subgenre, while Industrial is too generic as a term (could be related to a loooot of genres, even the non-electronic ones), and slowcore imo doesn't even exist, I feel it's only a term to describe the slower kind of hardcore in a period in wich the fast sound is growing so much.
-DOOMCORE: you're right, it is the kinda hardcor you and Convicted described
-INDUSTRIAL HARDCORE: To be honest this genre could include different tempos, I'll show you some examples:
- CROSSBREED: Is a different kind of industrial hardcore wich focus iitself in a sort of breeding of drum and bass elements in hardcore, is tempo is usually 175
FRENCHCORE:
UK HARDCORE: With this name I mean the kind of hardcore produced by the UK underground hardcore artists like Producer, Hellfish ecc.., wich usually has lot of breakbeat influences
TERROR:
SPEEDCORE:
FLASHCORE: It's basically a kind of speedcore, but with more flashy kicks and mental elements
ACIDCORE: This is easier to find at some free parties
DARKCORE: Is more a kind of term used to describe that kind of 150bpm circa dark kind of hardcore, but it's more used for tracks from the past like, from what I know
or
I hope I helped you, obviously someone could help me adding something more if I forgot something

^ Hmm, not sure but maybe Breakcore also belongs here? What I've heard so far is mostly the mixture of Jungle and D&B, but there might be some hardcore influences. If so, then go listen to guys like Venetian Snares, Bong-Ra or Igorrr.
Also Neurocore tracks are flashcore? That's new to me

No, breakcore is more a kind of separated genre, even if you can feel some jungle influence or some hardcore one. Then, there are lot of different kinds of breakcore tracks, remaining into Venetian Snares listen to his albums Filth and Traditional synthesizer music or Ross Csillag Alatt Szulettet and see the difference, for example. It has a particolar structure and his particolar sounds as a genreThe Convicted wrote:^ Hmm, not sure but maybe Breakcore also belongs here? For flascore, yes, it's quite superflouos to separate it from speedcore maybe, but yes they use to call it like this
Thank you for clearing some things up. I think I understand the difference between doomcore and industrial hardcore now as well as the other genres you mentioned. Your examples of darkcore reminds me a lot of the tracks released on Traumatic and Dark Decent.Faber93 wrote:Ok, I'll try to do a sort of list, with the premise that I don't listen to all the sub genres in the hc spectrum, so I could forget something maybe

Do you know what genre this song would be then?
Spoiler
Thank you for the website, it's pretty cool. Hopefully he's able to get an updated version out because it's helpful. The Convicted wrote:For the roots of hardcore I can offer you this:

On some doomcore songs, I've seen in the comments of people talking about slowcore but what you said makes sense.Future Shokk wrote:Slowcore?
