Screech problems

Post by NEKA »

Hiya all.

I know it's funny for me to make an topic about this but yeah, it's about screeches.

So, I kinda have thing hang about how to make some screech sounds etc, but there's a problem. When you listen to screech pattern what Audiofreq and others do, they don't sounds like they're on any note. They sound screeches.

But what my problem is that when I make a screech and an screech pattern, it sounds just an screechy sound going through notes.

Where is the problem? I have tried the attack/envelope tracks and filtering to achieve the "un-note" sound for it but no results.

Any idea from you guys, as when it comes to synth design, I'm not good at all :(

You need to lose the musical properties of the sound, if that is what you are wanting to achieve. Use chorus, pitch shifters, bit crushers, pitch modulation etc to take the tone out of the noise.

On the other hand, just tune the screech to the key of the track :)

Try some heavy detuning and distortion after your filter.
I usually use a bandpass with lots of automation. I'll post an example of what i mean later today.

That gets alot of tone out but still keeping it on tune.

Could be done on many ways, but mod envelopes are your answer most of the time! Try to add some envelope to your cutoff for instance, which could, in combination with quite some resonance and distortion, could lead to a cool screech :)

Bounce the screech and start chopping it up, preferably combined with pitching to create a pattern :)
