The Basics of making a screech

Post by Stereotypes »

Well I want to know this thing about screeches
Because I want to make my own screeches and not watch a tutorial and make a replica of that same screech....
I want to make my own sounds so
I want to know what the basic things are to make screeches and what the best VST is to make them.

Detuning and Pitch Modulation but actually u make a screech of really fcking everything.
for example Chris one made a Screech out of the Windows Start sound.
u can even make a Screech out of a normal square/saw wave and than just process it with fx.
u can even make screech stuff with timestretching.
so there arent any basics of making a screech.
And now

Imagine building a guitar and then tuning it and then playing it. That's what electronic music is.

Samples or didn't happen. :+

BTW: (I saw this at the speedcore topic, sorry if I'm stealing this from you :) )Take a speedcore track in a sound editor, Remove everything, just leave a wave. Now you have a very nice sounding screech and you can play with it. :+

Actually, I think you got that from me. Still, hilarious. :+

OT: Chorus & EQ also helps here.

Maybe i can give you some tips/help with how to create a screetch. This is my first post on this forum.

In this tutorial to create your own screetch you dont need any synth. Let me explain :D

1: Start with Drumazon 909 Drum-machine and create a loop with lets say 2 kicks on repeat with a long tail on the end of the plain kick

2: Distort the kick/909 very hard before you do any other thing about it

3: Put a EQ on it and boost it on 500-1000 hz or something like that. Boost it all the way to the top on your selected hz. With boosting i mean to increase it to 30 decibel/DB or even higher when you have decided what hz/pitchtone you want it on if that made sense.

4:distort it again very hard after you did step 3.

5. And put EQ on it like in step 3 and boost it all the way up to decibel 30++
(Make adjustment to the EQ intill you have a screetchy sound)
6: play with the length of the tail of the kick in drumazon, and play around with the pitch and punch of the kick to create a sound.

PS: I am doing sound-design as a hobby to come up with new sounds, and hopfully make a track someday.

If you want to listen to a some screetches that i have made doing this just copy this url and listen :

Please reply if you have any questions :D

O.o i'm terribly sorry to say.. But these sounds don't even come close to a screech. A screech is a detuned waveform that pitches up or down, most of the time the attack will be pitched up. Your sounds come more close hardsounds, as some would call it. But these are most definitely not screeches..
