How to sound less FL-Studio-ish?

Post by QuantomMusic »

I've been using FL studio for a while now, but only recently have I been using it to actually make full length songs.

I have one problem though. My songs just sound bad. I send my tracks to my hardstyle-loving friends and they tell me it sounds decent but I know FL has the capability to produce so much better, because artists like Da Tweekaz use it for their tracks.

My tools:
My 16 year old brain
Inspiration from other artists
FLS 9
Toxic Biohazard
An abundance of samples (although I prefer soundfont kicks so I can alter the pitch)
Nexus
z3ta+
Junglist

I mess around and experiment with all these things, but all of my tracks end up sounding the same. What can I do to sound less FL studio-ish? I have a pretty vast knowledge of the application. (although I'm sure theres so much I don't know) I read tutorials all the time because I just want to make my songs sound better. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Here are two examples of my best tracks (feel free to skip around, but listening to the whole song would yield better advice):

Also is not about FL. Cuz as you meant, da tweekaz use it and they are really amazing.

I listened your tracks, and you need to work more on your sound design. Check the tutorials sections of this forum, will be really helpful for you. I have learned a lot there :)

The best way to achieve a good sounding track is to get the structuring and the sound design right. The structure of both tracks need lots of work. Also they need more percussion and more fx. Sound design is very important because it doesn't really matter how good everything else is if the sounds are bad then the rest isn't going to sound good. Then the mixdown and mastering need to be done properly. Look at tutorials on youtube but don't use the sounds as your own. Look at the methods and alter them to see if you can get your own sounds.

Hope that helps you :)

it has nothing to do with the DAW, it's the producer behind the DAW,
you can't just expect to be able to make a good track without time and effort,
it takes ALOT of practice and time to complete a great track,
just keep working on it :)

Don't listen to dumb mofo's in youtube comments, they're the only cunts ignorant enough to claim that FL is the reason the music is bad.
