Being a good musician has a lot to do with talent. If u don't have the talent, it takes a lot of time to get good quality, and then of course you need to be able to create melodies and stuff which you can't do without talent. (Maybe you can but the result is not always the best) "Musical ears" are probably the most important thing.

To be honest, I think talent is the good mindset. Your mentality goes above everything. You just need the will to be a perfectionist and to improve. Work hard, like all the succesful artists ;)
Zatox once said, that he invested all his spare time into producing, you'll never get there with 30min-1h a day.

Yo dude!

Same here, i am making hardstyle from 2009, but the hardstyle kick isnt easy and you must accept it. Tweaking is the biggest thing in making a hardstyle kick, sometimes it can takes hours, sometimes it can take a few weeks.
But you must go on if you want it. Like me, i'm just going on everyday with making a hardstyle kick.
Sorry for my bad english :p
But just keep trying and i know you will get there!
A producer like noisecontrollers or wildstylez dindt get there kick in a week, its just keep trying.

Sorry for my bad english agian..

Greets!
Behind the curtain of everyday's consciousness..

Hey all, just came back on these forums after a while of inactivity and saw that this thread, for some reason, was still on the first page. I really appreciate all the feedback and it has inspired me to keep trying what I love doing, even if I'm terrible at it haha.

My advice: search youtube for tutorials over and over again. Not only for tutorials for hardstyle music, but also for all other genre's. You will find techniques used in house tracks that might help you out with your hardstyle tracks.

Besides that, train your ears by listening to hardstyle kicks of professional producers everyday. Try to find out what they are doing and try to regocnize tecniques/sounds you used/maked.

Also, try to look a little bit further with the things you use. There is no standard way to make a kick or a leadsound. Try learning what each plugin does, or can do. I was using camelphat, ohmicide and ozone for over a long time in combination with junglist and wouldn't use anything else. But I've asked several producers for some advice and techniques they were doing, maybe you should try to explain your problems to them and asked if they have a few tips (I know Adaro, Waverider and Geck-o are taking time for their fans and producers). Now I use Drumazon, some standard FL plugins (it's suprising how good they work if you use them the right way) like Blood Overdrive and Waveshaper (last one is an amazing plugin to create more warmth onto your sound).

I don't think the problem is that people make kicks to quick, but they don't finish it. When you use a kick in a track you always have to EQ more, distort more and use more other plugins to fit your kick into the track.

Hope it helps you a bit!

My kicks were awfull first too. My first try even did not sound like a kick. Nowadays I'm seeing real difference with the beginning. Not saying I'm good at it, but eventually you see yourself improving.

If you dedicate your time to it and really are interested in how getting it to sound right, eventually you will get it to sound right. It just takes time, practice and with that practice comes experience.
