Vertile - Where Legends Rise (Defqon.1 Anthem 2025)

Post by Gommes_ »

It's okay I guess. For me it just underlines that Vertile was not that Wunderkind everyone hoped for. Not just since the anthem but in general. I mean it is still crazy that the people at Defqon chose him as the anthem maker.

I was actually really excited and hyped for this anthem but I guess Vertile hasn't been doing it for me lately and this track is sadly not doing it either. Happy he got the chance of course and I'm sure it's still gonna be an amazing event and played live will probably be great too but I just find it boring and empty in a way, just not for me!

Sure he put a lotta effort in it, but the result is.. meh, dunno :(
Melody doesn‘t catch me, don‘t get that Defqon feeling from it, variation in the second climax is also underwhelming.
Maybe making the Anthem should be more of musically deserved again, and not a artist popularity thing.

You guys kept it quite polite and diplomatic so far, so I'll try as well. To my ears this sounds terrible and considering anthems I've already lowered my expectations to basement level.
He's proven that he indeed can put out good tracks. But here nothing really seems to work out.

I think the simplicity of the rhythmic scheme of the main melody is one of the largest issues. The same rhythmic motif just repeats 4 times with no variation. Doesn't help that the note pattern doesn't have anything unique/interesting either, the kind of melody you'd write in 30 seconds with basic music theory background and no inspiration. And the second climax doesn't really spice things up, just a slight rhythmic variation from the first climax that doesn't really change the energy level or emotive state to evolve the piece musically.

Overall the tune sounds like a copypaste of the last 10 Vertile songs, he has an extremely cool sound and style but when the style doesn't evolve much and the tracks start to blend together, it becomes a bit of an issue. Doesn't help that it's an anthem for the only large Q-dance event left, raising peoples expectations even more.

For me, the only big upside is the interesting usage of the IIb chord of the minor scale (C major in this context), not something heard often. Gives it a nice unique atmosphere, but that doesn't really save the tune from being boring when everything else is mediocre and heard many times before.

There's so much to say about how terrible this is, but I will limit myself to a couple of thoughts.

1. This dude is corny as hell and always has been.

2. Imagine how vindicated Sound Rush feels right now. This makes them look like gods of Hardstyle.

The melody is catchy to me. The singing is nice as usual but feels a bit out of place in the song? Just felt like an almost different track. I think it's a fine anthem not great but not bad

I'm seeing people on a certain other internet forum comparing this to Ran-D's anthem, and how that was so hated upon release and then was appreciated after some time passed. So maybe that'll happen with this?
Not likely, unless your entry point to the genre music in general is fairly recent that this kind of track is particularly mindblowing.

The difference between this and the Ran-D anthem is that it had tension, an easy to follow buildup to the climax, energetic lyrics, and at least had a higher tempo outro. All this has going for it is Vertile's singing, which makes this come off as more of a "woo look at me this is MY song, here's a Defqon vocal now it's an anthem :)
Even after a couple of listens again, this just isn't doing it for me. It's boring, predictable, and sounds so much like his other recent works. It's hard for me to feel any sentimentality for a track meant to be special when it sounds like a project someone whipped up on a public livestream within a day.

Not bad, but a bit disappointing - that's how I feel about anthems these days
I prefer some endshow tracks because of there epicness
Difficulty of creating a track titled 'Anthem' is extremely high lately

I agree on a lot of points already made. Track is ok / solid but nothing too special.

Copy paste climax two times is the biggest let down for me - is Q really handcuffing that hard that there is no anti or what Vertile usually does for the outro of his tracks?
