its just a adapter if you have a grapihccard with only DVI outputs but your screen only supports VGA.

you need to have a graphic card with 2 outputs

Thank MKN:

About the graphics card. Do you have an AGP slot?
If it's a newer computer, I'm guessing you may and that you also have PCI-Express.

If possible, get a PCI-Express card from either NVidia or ATI.
There's alot of cheaper cards out there. Just goto your local electronics store and you'll see that most all cards these days have dual outputs.

Also, does your screen have a blue adapter or a white one? Because there are also differences (although adapters can be bought).

I don't have any pc stores near me so i'd have to buy it online, which will probably be cheaper. I'm too scared to pull the pc apart incase i break it or something aha

So in which way do you wanna put in the new card?
You know that you will have to open your pc and not to connect it via USB or somethin ? ;D

Your motherboard seems to be an older ones, with the brand and model-name of it we could say which graphic-card would fit.
When you dont know search for CPU-Z, with that tool you can check exactly which processor and mainboard-model you have.
