Re: Unpopular opinions
Malice solo is horrible and sickmodes stuff is great. So in conclusion: its a good split, something for everyone

Totally agreed with the malice being a lot better than sickmode.
Sickmode is cheap stuff, made by an amateur and 0 meaning. Nothing oustanding in it really, Rooler is slightly better but still absolute garbage overall, both are super over-rated imo but their "fun" style with some decent kicks thrown in there works in the dance floor, cant deny that
Malice is great but his problem is producing too little. They were better as a duo imo
Also I don-t get how anyone can deny vertiles insane talent. The guy is just a machine, he can do it all. One thing is disliking his "style", but the fact he is one of the biggest talents we have had in recent years in this genre is undeniable

And to quote this, Qreator is the worst concept to ever exist in hardstyle, wtf is that? Just takes a spot from someone deserving it for an hour of useless trash. It was acceptable despite underwhelming as opening set in 2019, but even then zany showed to be far better.ThePrincipal wrote:Qreator is awful but then again, every big act at an event is pre-recorded so what's another with no identity I guess lol

Here goes my unpopular opinion: music is not a competition. I see so many people compare music which is basically creative personal outlets from people. Music is not a sports, we are not in a competition where you can promote or relegate. I personally connect with music when I feel the creator really had fun with making it / totally feeling it. Nothing more nothing less.

As much as I'd agree with this mindset, it's more like a daydream. I guess the solution would be to restrain capitalism from breaking into as much spheres of our lives as possible - including music - but yeah, that's probably not that popular and you become a filthy commie in the eyes of others in no time lolDjThera wrote:Here goes my unpopular opinion: music is not a competition. But I could go and ask as an example: why do you do remix competitions then? (not meaning you but in general) You are still choosing the best track or tracks worthy of releasing in your own terms right? You could just release whoever he/she is/they are that made music from the heart but that's not a competition already and honestly... is there anyone dare to do that in the scene? Of course not. And no matter how many times you're going to tell how happy you're that someone worked their ass off to their best knowledge, as soon as there's a price to "fight for" that not everyone can have - a chance to release your music and earn some money in this case -, there will be competition. See? It's like a big contradiction I don't know how to solve easily either. And don't take this as I'm calling you out for believing what you believe because I still have a lot of respect of what you've done to the hardstyle scene.

That's a bit different compared to say athletic competitions. In music it's not about "who's the fittest", a music competition is more about producing something with the hopes of it being a good result while praising all others for entering the competition too. Music can go any way, sometimes the most pro producers will not make the best track if they don't have the best inspiration during that time. The Convicted wrote:But I could go and ask as an example: why do you do remix competitions then?

Well maybe you can argue that there's competition with labels, and most danceable tracks? But I feel that the point is music is deeper than that. Competition is bringing ego into it and that makes it more about something else and not about the music.spitles wrote:It's comparable to sport imo. Especially when it's hard dance music, with people supposed to dance, which is similar to sport. Body discipline. Fitness. Martial arts kickroll hakken. Nowadays jumpen is comparable to figure skating. Etc.DjThera wrote:Music is not a sports, we are not in a competition
However it's true that it doesn't have to be a competition. If some artists/djs want to do it as a competition it's fine imo. Maybe it's part of their branding. Same for those who prefer to do it for fun, or with a mind free of competitive aspects. As if it was freeride.
Maybe this is how some artists did end up producingeuphoricserene hardstyle. Or xtra, freestyle, uptempo and freecore hdm, subground etc. where nobody cares about likes and competition stuffs, where it's just about having fun etc. ?

Yes maybe you can argue that it's toxic, still I think maybe the ego can be some fun. Maybe it can motivate. I remember Frontliner admitted his ego at one point...he was missing Headhunterz when he left the hardstyle scene for a while, and he missed the competition of "making the best track". As you say, maybe it isn't right, but also a little fun on the other side.spitles wrote:Ye. It can be marketing lies too. Fake competition to promote artists and labels. What? He shouldn't have had any worries about making better tracks than Heady did in that age because Wildstylez, NC and some others filled that gap pretty much back thenBanned User wrote:Ye. If there was ever a 'competition' about best tracks while HHZ was gone, Frontliner wasn't anywhere near the top in 2014-2017.

Doesn't matter, the point was that people were seeing it as a game. I think Frontliner was more about quantity over quality for a while, but then sometimes he would strike a good trackEmre wrote:If there was ever a 'competition' about best tracks while HHZ was gone, Frontliner wasn't anywhere near the top in 2014-2017.

Now that you're saying this and reading Pieter's comment again, he might be referring to those serious competitions - and not the complete lack of any competitions - which are about who is the best and I see where you're going.Soundphase wrote:That's a bit different compared to say athletic competitions.
