Headphones instead of monitors

Post by SNOOPP »

Hi there, i have question about producing in a headphones, is it ok? Does anyone is using headphones for producing?
I have small studio at my house and i have normal monitor system but now i can't use them all the time and maybe i can use them only for mixing. So i came to that point when i started to search place for my studio and found that i did not earn enough with producing to spent this amount of money for a room. So life is cruel and etc. :D I am playing every weekend as a dj and last 6 years with sennheiser hd 25 mk2 witch is good club headphones but they are not for music production.
Is there any point to spent 200-300 eur on a headphones and make noises in them and when its possible turn on normal speakers and clean everything, or not? Because if sound quality will be so "good" that after i'll spend same time by fixing everything i'll continue searching place for my small studio(searching for 6 months already)

Well, I use both monitors and headphones, usually I use monitors since they dont tire out my ears that quickly. I use headphones mostly for late night producing since my new appartment has paper thin walls and checking the final master/EQ and shit. IMO dont spend 300€ on a pair of headphones, buy some more isolation and a pair of cheap ones, ex I've got a pair of AKG K55, got them for like 40€ since I knew the store owner at the time. Really decent mids and highs, but not that powerful lows tho, which is where my monitors come in handy. Hope this helps at least a bit.
