This is a mini guide on getting to Defqon from Scotland. If you have never been to Amsterdam before, watch out for trams, cyclists and bikers.. I have lost count on how many times I've nearly been knocked down over the past week.
We flew from Edinburgh airport to Schipol on the Thursday night and stayed in a hotel in Amsterdam until Friday as the flight times weren't suitable for arriving early to Defqon on the Friday.
Once we arrived in Amsterdam we got a train from Schipol airport to Amsterdam Central, if I remember correctly the platform is 14a, the cost of the train is 4 euros.
We stayed at Atlanta hotel in Rembrantplein square, our three single bedded room was good but the other two who had a twin room was rather poop. (for thre record we also stayed at the rembrantplein square hotel which I preferred over Atlanta hotel).
Getting from Amsterdam Central to Rembrantplein was easy, we just jumped on a tram outside Amsterdam Central. Number 9 (at platform 4 I think?), the last stop is Diemen which is what it will say on the tram. Cost 2.80euro for 1 hour, trams are charged at an hourly rate.
So heading to Defqon, we got tram 9 again back to Amsterdam central, again 2.80euro.
We then got a tram from Amsterdam Central to Dronten which took around 1hour at a cost of 14euro. Get whatever you are taking to Defqon food and drink wise in Amsterdam as there isn't anywhere to get it after you leave Central Station. After arriving at Dronten we jumped on the shuttle bus to Defqon.
Defqon 1 is expensive to eat and drink at, this year you had to buy tokens (unsure if it's like that every year). 1 token cost 2.50euro and minimum you could purchase was 4 tokens. All food and drink was very expensive.
It is very easy to get around Holland, and if you are stuck just ask someone around you.. Majority of people do speak English.
Tips:
Bring sandals for the shower
Bring tissues in case you get any bleeding noses (like I did, very prone to them)
Bring your food and drink allowance to Defqon
If you get a weekend ticket make sure you attend both endshows and both after partys.
Ensure you arrive early on Friday to get a good camping spot.
Make sure any clothes you bring comes in a suitcase with wheels. We put our clothes in a hold all and it was a nightmare to carry.
Any other questions or queries feel free to contact me, looking forward to next year already
