General music production chat

Post by leeroy »

Hi, I thought we could have a topic where we discuss general philosophies of making music - The right and wrongs of making a track and just any tricks or tips you might want to share for people who don't have inspiration.

Discussion start:

When you are making a track, you shouldn't try too hard and you shouldn't try and do it with total ease either, it has to be in between.. but... that's tough man :dunno:

My advice is to play around with a sound, loop it,cut it,stretch it or revers it. Thats the way i do it with many "basic" sounds that i make to get ideas how to "filter" it after that and to get ideas how to use it after that.

And many sounds can be made with a simple kickdrum if you distort it and eq it very far

Ps: I only mentioned sound design here, but thats a good way to start

Sounds like a good way yea but somtimes I just want to use other peoples sounds and not my own. Maybe i'll try and make sounds that I really like first and then work with that

Have you ever tried to make a melody backwards? (creating it from the last bar to the first bar)
