The Early Hardstyle Topic

Post by D-Nial »

Hardstyle is a style that's been around for some time and it might be considered to have started back in 1998 and seriously have developed over the years.

Though there is some difference between people about the real definition of early hardstyle. For some it's the hardstyle made between 2002 and 2004, others say it's from 1998 untill 2001 and because the first real changes in hardstyle started in 2001/2002 and for others it doesnt matter as long as its from before 2003 or 2004. Where pitched kicks and basses are probably the biggest elements in todays hardstyle, the reversed bassline is often mentioned as the key element in the older sound of hardstyle.

Anyways, lets dedicate this topic to the older kind of hardstyle. Post and discuss your favorite classics, ask whether a track is considered early hardstyle or not or talk about early hardstyle events coming up just for the lovers.

And just keep this discussion about the earlier years of hardstyle and hardstyle classics only and not have an old vs nu discussion in here at all.

Well to kick off. A track thats really grown much on me the last couple of months is the very old Dance Pollution Droid - Viva Robot (C1P8 Mix). It's so damn far away from the hardstyle that most people know, but I really like the simiplicity in the track and it works.

And Ultrasonic - Bass MTFK (Remix) stays awesome to hear :one:

Personally i see early hardstyle somewhere from 2002 to 2004. Before that it sounded much more like hardtrance with huge influences from guys like scot project.

One of my favorites is definitely Ultrasonic - Ultrabass, awesome stuff. I really miss activators old stuff.

About nu-style and the pitches things, seems like people forgot that hardstyle has used pitched basslines :)

Idd. I guess its also hearable in Mauro Picotto - Komodo, which isnt really early hardstyle, but still have some elements in it.

I guess I'm one of those who thinks "it doesnt matter as long as its from before 2003 or 2004."

Also there's not certain years which I think delivered better tracks than other years, there's awesomeness all over the place.

Hmm, What does a reverse bass specifically mean? This is just a bass sound which is reversed with respect to time? So the tail end is in the beginning? or what. Feel free to be technical.
