I'm fairly certain every producer out there will disagree with you. You can make a banging record on shitty speakers, look at the Yamaha NS-10's, as long as your room is acoustically accurate. The Freq is correct on this issue. You can't mix a record with multiple nodes throughout the room causing standing waves unless you reference on multiple speaker systems in multiple rooms. It's not viably possible as your ears can't hear that you're sitting in an area with a standing wave. Constructive interference and destructive interference, get to know those terms.ljk32 wrote:You missed my point - I wasn't talking about studio monitors. A bad room with nice monitors will always beat a nicely treated room with $20 speakers. While very helpful, proper acoustics are by no means the most important part of a studio. Like I already said, knowing how stuff sounds in your particular listening environment (whatever acoustics/equipment you may have) is far more important than having room treatment. If it was between getting acoustic treatment and buying a proper pair of monitors, the monitors would be the better choice. For the reasons SCH suggested and more, a bedroom producer would get significantly more use out of a nice pair of monitors than a room with great treatment.audiofreq wrote:All monitors are inherently coloured man. Most important part of a studio.

Re: Most important part of a studio.
I'm surprised by the answers given here, the most important part of a studio should always be the producer. Apart from that, yes, acoustics are important, but that doesn't mean that you should start off in a room full of acoustic treatment. If you are sure to use a rectangular room, place your speakers at the middle of the long end of your room, put carpet on the floor rather than using a wooden floor and place your speakers with an angle of 60 degrees, you already are three steps ahead of somebody not knowing what he/she is doing

Hahah, well if we're going that in-depth I would say the second most important part after the producer is the producer's ears,Darycka wrote:I'm surprised by the answers given here, the most important part of a studio should always be the producer. Ohh sorry for not answering i was on vacation and without internet!
My opinion is that the most needed part of a studio as many said here and thanks for your replies guys is creativity! I think that if you are creative enough you could make a descent track without any special equipment. Also if you know how to get the best out of the things you have! For example if you learn the ins and outs of a DAW you might not need to buy any plugins and software! Thanks for your answers guys.

from my own experience.... i noticed that my tracks were getting better when i buy'd a pair lf monitor's... i really hate producing on crappy speaker's. even if my room is lacking the right acoustics, ( as i have )
but.
i do agree, that acoustic treatment, can get you more '' accurate '' hearing. for example reeverb things,
on the other hand, there are ''analyzer's'' and analyzer's are there to show us what ''really'' is goin on with Ur freqz.
as do oscilloscope's etc, so when you're room is not been treated like acoustic standards. it doesn't mean you can't produce nice sounding thing's, referencing to other speaker's and or system's also gives you some idea of were you're sounds are sitting,
i 2 am sometimes thinking... it aint me. it must be my room,
but in the end..... it's just me, needing to improve, and learning some more about different subject's.
i do actually want some acoustic treatment, so when i get that, i certainly think things will sound better,
but i am a long way ahead, and bit by bit, I'm building the right environment
.
you can surpass every obstacle, when you're mindset, know's what things are wrong, and what things are right,

Well, i had a little crapy computer speakers, and i mad all of my mixdowns and masterings on it. It wasnt the best mixdown and not the best quality, thats true, but it wasnt too bad. Right now i got a better speakers, but the mixdown on them is kind of muddy, and the sound that i want to get is not really the sound that i have.
In my opinion, its just a matter of that i got used to my old crappy speakers, and now i need to get use to that new speakers. And its just my ears and all the problem is in me
On the other hand there is things that can make your studio easier to work with, and that it. You can buy a good monitors, the best sound card and make your room acoustic, buy great headphones, synth and etc.
But in the end, its all about you and your knowledge and skills
