Also, thanks for the huge response. All I was looking for with my initial post. Things get out of hand quickly here, but I think we're through now.
I had an early version finished for Defqon 2013, but the final mix that was used on Audioception was completed September last year.

:)
I have a snappy question for you (no idea why I chose snappy as an adjective). Do you use multi-band compression, or do you separate the frequency bands and do individual compression by routing via multiple bus's? I find myself with a better quality master (I've been mixing and mastering a few buddies tracks for practice while I work on my kicks) and tend to send the source audio per track to four bus's, using filters separating the lows, low-mids, high mids, and highs, then compressing them individually and adding a final touch of slight EQ. It sounds great (at my skill level that is), but I'm not sure the work is worth the effort when I could be using multi-band compression.

Oh and to the OP, you really had my brain working on this one. To all who posted beforehand, even if it seemed a little harsh you al had very good insight and I could tell you all thought hard about your responses. This thread was a great read.

I never use multi band compression in my mastering.

Your method of separating out a mix sounds very strange to me.

^ I agree that it sounds very strange, but hypothetically speaking wouldn't this method be feasible provided that you use a proper linear phase EQ when multibanding?

I would like to add some of my insight to your question Lehsyrus, but honestly my skills when it comes to mastering are not exactly up to par, so I'm going to avoid doing that. However, I would like to add that I do use multiband compression at times when I get a particulary nasty low end to deal with.
