VOCALS: Deep vs. Robot

Post by Astroshade »

Hardstyle tracks often sound better when you add vocals, IMO, it gives it a nice touch.
I love making my own vocals.
Not singning vocals, but rather talking in rhymes - "poetry".

For this I use 1- deep vocals, which I'm sure most of you use. And sometimes I like to try using 2- robotic vocals.

I use a dynamic mic, mono, and record in Edison (Fruity loops).
Then I usually use the monophonic pitch, and pitch it down a lot (-12 semitones) this gives a nice crisp shift that doesn't sound like a b-movie demonic voice.
Then after i bounce that to a WAV I usually use a "regular" shift down but only 1-2 semitones...
Afterward a lot of EQ and perhaps a bit of Ohmicide.

When making Robotics, I use Audacity with vocoder effect.
I "stole" the genreal idea of having 1 voice, multiple vocoder bands (40-70), 0% original voice, and radar needle freq. around 2-40ish.
The freq can be adjusted to match the notes that are playing.

If anyone likes the idea, or doesn't understand what I'm saying I'd be delighted to make a tutorial :D

Peace out!

The idea of a tutorial sounds cool. But can you post some of your results first?

Recently I've been messing with layering vocals and making unnatural sounds with them. I'll record a vocal, then record another one on the third, and another on the fifth for a major chord (the pitch of my voice). Then I'll pitch shift the fifth so it becomes an inverted triad, and I'll pitch shift the root note up one octave. Then I duplicate the third and pitch shift that back to the root. After some EQ it makes for one hell of an effect vocal.
