Harmonic Excitation

Do you guys use Harmonic Excitation on your leads?
Because sometimes my Leads sound dull, and neither Eq nor compression makes them sound any better.
Like I try to add one or two octaves higher but still no better.
So I add the Hamronic Exciter from iZotope Ozone 5... but the problem is, it's heavy on the CPU.

So I wonder, do any of you use that, and if so, which one do you use?

What are you computer specs? Because ozone shouldn't be that heavy on your cpu. I use it occasionally, but not that much. Layering, reverb, and delay works wonders.

I don't use anything like that on the lead

the most vital FX for leads is simple EQ, but to make a lead sound less dull, the trick is to use chorus but you need to take time to tweek it! Fruity Chorus is actually not bad but you need to understand it well

Especially on the tail of the kick... can chorus be used there as well?

You can use whatever you want.

yea you can use whatever but generally chorus doesn't really work out well for the tail, I don't usually use chorus when making the tail of the kick but it can work

for the tail you should use:
Limiter
Reverb
Clip Distortion
Volume Envelope
Overdrive
EQ
Phaser (After distortion)
Waveshaper
Timestretcher (nobody really uses that but it can work)

and at the very end you can optionally use a multiband compressor/distortion and stereo phasing/phase inversion

that's what works best in my opinion

Your sounds are thin and the volume leves are way off. I suggest you read up on mixdown and how to fatten your sounds .
