Future Shokk wrote:Is Hardtechno still a big thing? Havent' followed the scene for a couple of years now but for me it seems to die out.. Some big names completey switched styles (Felix Kröcher, Robert Natus, Sven Wittekind fe) and other big names who produced Hardtechno on a very high level (Waldhaus, Weichentechnikk, Boris S fe) rarely releasing something nowadays as it seems. Not many quality producers are left i fear :(
Nobody's trying to do something new anymore it seems :/ I chat with frank kvitta now and then and he's stopped making hardtechno as well, still plays it though. Miss djax also said it's kind of hitting a wall, the only direction is towards industrial hardcore and crossbreed, and that's not really what the more techno biased people like.

It all went pretty much down the drain around 2008/2009 allready, with that stupid over-distorted Eastern-European crap that was released by masses. :(

No more steam-locomotive rolling drumpatterns, but fast distorted kicks. Pity...............

It is a real shame. Got so much love for hard techno and schranz, can only hope there's some kind of renaissance in the near future.

There are almost daily uploads of hardtechno sets at lsdb.nl which is more than enough for me. Also there were some very cool releases over the past few years, it's not like it's a completely dead style.

It's obviously not dead yet, but nothing's changing. It's constantly the same thing getting released with slightly different "drop it!" kind of vocals and shitty synthwork. The mixdowns are getting better but the creativity is going nowhere.

Also, when was the last time you went to a (commercial) party that didn't have either Fatima Hajji, Miss Djax, Pet Duo, Mike Drama, or Frank Kvitta on it? It's near impossible to find refreshing line-ups anymore. Not that I don't enjoy those parties, they're my favourites, but it's kind of depressing to see it slowly die.

What hardtechno needs is some to come shake things up with a new take on the genre, without altering it too much.
The genre have basically sounded the same for the last ten years or so, unless you count the hardcore-esque stuff by Waldhaus.
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?

I have never seen him play live, though I've only been listening for about 2 years, so I guess not. He's still releasing though.
