Are house producers allowed to rip?

Post by Dj Reaper »

I recently stumbled upon Martin Garrix´s video on how he made animals and there he said that the kick is from a song he likes. This somehow made me think. Why does he state this officially? Is that allowed? In Hardstyle he´d be executed for this. Yes, in hardstyle the kick is one of the most important elements of a track and I don´t know, maybe in house that´s not so important. But would then a hardstyle producer be allowed to rip another producers clap? And what´s the story with that eryc pryda snare, why does everybody want to rip that snare instead of just using another snare sample?

This are just some questions bothering me, that all seems so unlogical to me..

Hmm, I don't think the House Scene gives a fuck about this as long as it sounds well.

The House Scene has a bigger proble with Ghost Producers atm. :+

kick snare and shit arent a big deal in house scene. They are all using sample. And as you said, kick doesnt make the track in house like hardstyle.
plz stop destroying house track with hardstyle kick edit

But in theory is this allowed, or is it illegal but nobody cares about it? I mean, can I go there and say, I like this kick, let´s use it in a commercial track?
About your argument, let´s say in hardstyle a calp is not that important. if I can rip a kick in house, does that mean I can say I like that NC clap, let´y use it in a hardstyle track and nobody would say anything?

I don't think it's legal to use someone's material for your own tracks, especially if you want to sell it.

'Ripping' a clap will probaby go unnoticed, so nobody would even say anything about it.

I don't know if sampling / ripping is illegal. If it is illegal then Eric Prydz or other artists probably don't care about it which makes sense to me because in House music house kicks, claps and snares don't make tracks like hardstyle kicks do (for a lot of people).
