About 93% of Crimean voters have backed joining Russia and seceding from Ukraine, exit polls have suggested.
Crowds of pro-Moscow voters celebrated in the main city of Simferopol, and Crimea's pro-Russia leader said he would apply to join Russia on Monday.

Hahahaha happy day for Russia! :D
p.s. They've now said about 95%.

During referendum: "The referendum on Crimea’s status is going peacefully, with record-breaking turnout, international observers report. Most of them told RT that the referendum is credible and the vote of the Crimean people should be respected."

Russia Today is Putin friendly and should be taken with a grain of salt.
A Crimean majority wanting to join Russia isn't going to change the legal status of Crimea, it's still a part of Ukraine.

It is up to the Ukrainian Parliament and no one else to decide whether or not Crimea gets to join Russia.
I'm grumpier than you.

1. I've been reading both bbc and rt for a long time and i i do know that bbc always says the best about western countries (maybe there are some exceptions) and the worst about russia. RT always says the best about every country and the worst about every country, including russia. And when it comes to truthfulness, BBC just lied about "Russian ultimatum to Ukraine" which appeared to be lie and BBC apologised on Fb after few hours, while RT didn't tell any lies yet. As far as i know everything appeared to be the truth, sooner or later.
2. And no, it is not up to Ukranian parliament. According to democracy folk > parliament.

RT is Russian-biased, and there are more news stations covering this crisis then RT and BBC.
And no, Crimea still belongs to Ukraine de jure, and de facto, so yes it is up to the Ukrainian Parliament to deicde, not a Crimean regional parliament. Unless the President and his Parliament says otherwise, Crimea will remain a part of Ukraine, and not Russia, nor independent.

Please, Russia Today is funded "through the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation". It's literally Russian PR campaining. Sounds unbiased, doesn't it?

As for the legality of seperating Crimea: obviously the Ukrainian constitution contains an article that theoretically prevents Crimea from separating (it must be done by referendum). But one can wonder if the non-Crimean, pro European citizens should have any right to tell the people of Crimea to which country they belong. Isn't the whole point of separating from Ukraine to not live under Ukrainian law anyway? Changes of territory don't usually go the legal way anyway. The US separating from the UK wasn't exactly legal too.
Spoiler
Also.

Well EU can't put effective sanctions on Russia due to the huge gas exports going from Russia to Germany, France, Baltic states, Finland and Ukraine.

If war was to erupt, Iran-styled sanctions would be put into action however.

The referendum makes me laugh btw. 97% voting yes? That is in no way in relation to the percentages of pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian inhabitants. Bet there have been a shitload of fake votes.

Love Russia's hypocrisy too. Occupying Crimea to "protect Russian citizens", but refusing to let go of Chechnya.
