Re: Into what has techno turned today?

Post by Dj Reaper »

yes i know that ;) i admit that i don't really know the differnce between hardtechno and schranz but otherwise in the harddance scene I know what is what, just the more commercial side is a bit unknown to me, like i don't get the difference between house and electro and so.
Sorry for writing such bullshit at the beginning but i just had no clue how to formulate my question but i think I understood that techno is a rather mechanical sounding genere, like schranz only with less bpm, and not that hard, whilst the stuff i thought was techno is referred to handsup, which also has a more mechanical rhythm than house but is more melodic than the real techno ;) correct me if i am wrong though!

Harder kick drums compared to house and techno too, House and Electro are pretty similar if you ask me with both of the genres crossing over quite a bit. I think it goes something along these lines: Techno > Tribal House > House > Electro House > Electro. There are loads of sub genres inbetween but I feel those genres are the main connections.

I had to come up with two theories on one popular music genre and a lesser known genre at University, I choose Techno and Goa Trance. I got good scores on both, its quite interesting what you find really. If you ever get the chance to see Derrick May I would highly recommend seeing him, one of the pioneers of Detroit Techno back in the late 80's and 90's.

PS: You will know its him as hes always high on mandy, hes clamed down a bit now but he used to be an absolute a***hole.

hardtechno = schranz
gabber = something completely different (hardcore (even tho i wouldn't refer to nowaday's hardcore as gabber))

check this guide, it might help you understand things a little:

Kamui are no more for three years or something. one of them is now known as Kairo Kingdom (together with ASYS), but it's electro house/dubstep. Organ Donors have turned to complete electro house shit lately, but like two years ago they were pioneering what they called "hard edge", basically the same thing as subground lol.

not really. they DO sound awfully alike, and I have hard times telling one from another, but they are not the same thing.

you sure? legend says that chris liebing just said "das schranzt aber" ("this is schranzing" or sth like that) back then when he still used to spin ht and so the synonym schranz for ht was born.

have you ever actually listened to the type of scharanz Liebing used to play and to what schranz is nowadays? it's like two different genres. starting from the fact that Liebing's schranz was around 140 bpm, when nowadays schranz is somewhere around 160 bpm.

schranz is just a word that describes something like a very loud noisy sounds. like if a machine is broken, you also could say in german that the machine "schranzt" (the sound of the machine is meant with that) . so a very open titling :+
