Post by bassrescue »

Hello, I am wanting to make a Vocal roll like in Headhunterz- From With In. I use ableton, but recently got FL 11 for Mac to just try it out.
I also would like some help with a kick. I have made some kicks but they are all too distorted and have a bad sound afterwards. any suggestions?
Synth help aswell... I have massive, and FM8 any tips? :? :? :?

There are plenty of tutorials, use the search functions on this forum or use google.

We're not here to spoonfeed you.

And seriously, how do you expect us to help you out when you are being waay too vague with your questions?

Asking for tips on how to make a vocal roll is fine, but, seriously come on dude. Your kicks are all too distorted and has a bad sound afterwards? You know that doesn't say shit to us, right? You're gonna have to upload a file to a place like soundcloud or zippyshare to begin with, so we can listen to your kick.

I believe that he is talking about a some noise comming from the tail. I believe its because you use too much distortion (happens to me often), like you pointed out yourself. But listen to Euphorizer here, we cant exactly help you out without having anything to listen to, and dont expect us to make some presets for your synth.

Just go back a few steps in making your kick, usualy when I've used too much, I delete my last few steps, and start from there, eventualy when you begin to understand wich sound you have, and want, you will know how much or wich perticular effect to use to achieve a good kick. Practice and some luck makes all the difference. Kicks are a very long process, it takes a lot of time to get decent kicks.

My first kick that was 'acceptable' was made about 2 years ago, on wich I spent 2 hours, every day for 3 months. (if I listen to it now, it sounds HORRIBLE) Now, with the right kind of processing, it only takes me about a week, maybe 2 to get it done. Patience and know when to quit, kicks are a harsh sound, so when you listen too much to the same sound, you tend to thinks it's good. When in doubt, compare, when still in doubt, take a rest. Sleep on it, think what next steps you need to take to achieve the sound you want.

The chances of making a kick in a few hours are very small. This is what a lot of people are struggling with, accepting the fact that it's a time consuming process. There is no 'easy' way to do it. It just gets done faster once you know what you're doing.

But if you want some tips on where to improve, like Euphorizer said, we need a sample.
