Re: Compression on your master channel?

@Darycka As stupid as it might be, I watched quite a few tutorials and studio sessions with professional producers and it seems that they do the exact same thing. Nicky Romero has done so in his Toulouse project when Future Music came to his studio, Martin Garrix said so in a live stream and I think (I am not sure) Armin van Buuren does the same (also Future Music in the studio with). So I was just repeating, what they have said.

I tought it was necesarry to have that -4 till -6db endmix untill the mastering engineer told me it wasn't. As long as no channels are clipping and there's nothing on your master your track is good for mastering.

Personally i always lower my master channel by a few db, it definitely does help when it comes to the mastering process (the headroom that has already been discussed).

Also a word to newer producers, don't worry about the mastering process. I often see a lot of folk asking for mastering tips etc, at the end of the day everyone should be more focused on keeping a clean mixdown. Mastering a track that has a poor mixdown will not make it sound any better and may even make it sound worse :).

Back to the original point, keep the master channel clean :P.

People seem to forget that mastering won't magically fix a shit track. Mastering is getting a track to translate properly to multiple forms of media/speakers: from your crappy iPhone speakers, to that one Logitech speaker set everyone and their mum has at home.

So yeah, like Subject Zero said, focus on the mix.
