Stereo width of reverb on a lead

Post by Soundphase »

ok so here's a question, what level of stereo should the reverb be on a lead? I can never make up my mind and what it should be, since I always change my mind, in most scantraxx releases the reverb on the lead was completely mono, I guess that helps for mastering stages when widening the whole mix, but what do you do? I'm trying to leave some stereo in my reverb and have it about 50% stereo, 50% mono
Purpose, thou art the compass.

There is no rule for it. It all depends on the type of synth you are using and also how much stereo width the dry synth has I think. Just try out some different settings and see what sounds best for your lead.

Well there you go, I was wrong. I was sure the first reply would be some nonsense from someone who has no idea what they're talking about. Conor, he's right about what he's saying, though of course you would've already known that there's no rule to it. Although, I know how difficult it can be to stick with a particular stereo width setting, especially on that of reverb. I tend to find that it never exactly sounds 'bad' no matter what placement you chose, and that makes the decision pretty damn hard haha.

You can use any width you think sounds good imho, just make sure to keep checking your mix in mono once in a while so you know for sure there are no phasing issuses.
