Do you like to work with samplers or audio?

Post by Soundphase »

From seeing Frontliners studio videos, He seems to like working with audio for the most part, I think it's interesting

Atmozphears have said before that they like to control their sounds with the Kontakt sampler

Other producers such as NC and audiofreq are mysterious :p

How do you prefer to work, controlling sounds with audio or samplers?

i'm kind of weird in that I mostly use FM synthesis and have sounds playing out of the synths, I think it will be mostly audio clips in the future for me..
Purpose, thou art the compass.

I'd love to have the time to learn Kontakt in depth tbh

I do use automation a lot, then bounce as audio, then effect the audio channel :)

Audiofreq literally bounces EVERYTHING down to audio.

and i enjoy working with audio as well. It gives me more control and options to do different as apposed to samplers which I find, limit your capabilities. But hey, everyone has their own preference

As Fl Studio user I hate working with audio. When possible I try to keep it MIDI and otherwise I load things into the Fl Sampler, but I still don't get what happens when I paste an audioclip in the playlist, where I find it, how to edit it and so on. I think this will hinder me more and more over time and I think sooner or later I will buy a Mac (of course load a Windows OS with Fl onto it) and see how Logic works for me and how you arrange your tracks with audioclips and so on and how you modify them and that stuff, I think for Hardstyle working with audio is the easiest and one can also produce non EDM-generes, but I can't say more because about it as I still see the things from an Fl-Studio point of view.

if i'm mastering tracks, i'll bounce them to seperate audio channels and master them through logic, but other than that, i dont bounce audio and edit unless its a kick or acapella i want to put into slicex.

I work with both, as sometimes later in the project I think I want to change that sound but if its an audio file the workflow slows im talking about leads etc not perc, kicks etc. So if I keep the sound in VST mode etc then I can go back and edit it quickly.

Audio = Destructive editing
VST = Non Destructable editing.

Its just the way I like to work, its what best suits me.
