[Drum'n'Bass] Mediks Feat. Astronaut - Blown Away (In Stasis Remix)

Post by Reverser »

Here's our attempt for drum'n'bass contest. More mainstream track this time, completely different from our Tainted Audio stuff. It's fully finished so i decided to post it here :P And if we win maybe it'll be released :)

And here's the original for comparision

You guys obviously know what you're doing in terms of sound design - the reese work is really nice. What I noticed is that in both your remix and the original, the vocals don't stand out as much as they should in the mix - it feels as though they are lacking brightness. At first I thought maybe your mixdown was a bit cluttered and that was possibly what was causing it, but it just seems like that's the timbre of the vocal themselves. In other words, after I listened to the original, I realised it had nothing to do with your mix, since your track is very well produced, and it's a quality mix.

However, I feel as though track composition/structuring may be a little bit of an issue. Though, these may have been creative decisions that you wanted to have in the track. At around 0:40, the track is building up really nicely, then it's quite disappointing to hear that it doesn't actually lead to a drop. The first section of the drop sounds really nice, but then it starts to sound random/hard to follow at 1:52 onwards. Also, after 3:21, it sounds like an entirely different track. Personally I think it sounds really awesome, but I just feel that it doesn't match everything prior to that point.

Besides that, you guys clearly know what you're doing and are quality producers. If you work a bit more on your track structure, you're capable of some really huge tracks. Big ups.

Thanks for your input :)
The vocals are quite soft, probably the neurofunk style is too hard for them but even the original seems to be already too noisy for them. So yeah, they're quite difficult to work with.
The 2nd drop and breakdown might be quite different than 1st one but we wanted to avoid repeating 1st break & drop which is quite often these days. It's still all in key, just a bit different ;)

Awesome work _O_ And I love the unexpected break in the intro, since predictable songs are always boring.
