The best size monitor's for my room.

Post by Exilonator »

hey all

I have a questions about my choice for my first set of monitor's.
i was thinking about the KRK Rokit 8 G2, but is this the good choice for my room.
My room is approximately 14 m². And my room is a perfect 4 angel.
i have a small window in it en its in my basement.

Is this the good choice?

Thankyou!

14 m² and 8 inc monitors? Nope. Go for 6 or 5 inch ones, in my opinion.

Also, way to be ontopic, Fission

I would go for the Rokit 5 or 6.

Never ever, get 5 inch monitors. They are too small. I would go for some 6 inches maybe 8's. You need acoustic treatment though. Acoustic treatment is always more important than the type and brand of monitors you got.

But don't get 5 inch monitors, those who say they got enough bass, is either sitting in a corner (Peak) or somewhere else where the bass builds ups, which is a bad idea.

Those who say 8 inches are too big for small rooms like 14 m², just look at many pros sitting in small studios. Lot's of them has 8 inches. Just place your desk, so your speakers are firing down the long side of your room, and go for the 38 % rule (Mix Position), treat the room with DIY basstraps (3-4 Inch of Rockwoll inside a woodenframe), everybody can make those, and tbh, i've had lots of foam Basstraps, but fact is, they don't do shit, it's so minimal, waste of money. Build 8 traps, 1 meter by 50 cm, and place 2 on top of each other in all 4 corners, the results is so amazing, you won't ever beleive it, until you hear the before and after result. later on build 8-14 more, and put them on the walls and some over the mixposition.

Yeah, Frontliner uses 4/5(can't remember exactly)inch genelecs because he doesn't know what he's doing.

And the reason I don't recommend 8 inch monitors is because he isn't a pro, because, unlike them, I doubt he has enough money to treat his room accoustically, properly.

He uses 8030A, which are 5 inches (55 Hz to 22-23 Khz i think). Frontliners studio also looks like he has his chair almost at the backwall. So obviously the only reason he has any bass is because he sits so close to the backwall. If you take those genelec 8030A, and put them into a room that is 3 meter by 4 meter (12 Square Meters), then you won't hear enough low end, unless you have some strange room dimensions like Frontliner or Zatox. I doubt that Frontliner has an ideal Stereo Image, when placing his left speaker in the corner.

Those small monitors only work if you either have a really small room, or sitting in a peak (Corner or close to the backwall).

It obviously works for frontliner, but i doubt that he does his mixdown and mastering on those monitors only. If he does, then _O_. He must be reference testing and correcting things on something else.

Check a studio like headhunterz, he has a lot of Vicoustic and other expensive foam, but a month ago or something, he said that he had major Acoustic Problems posting a picture of some "Real" Bass Traps (Rockwool Inside wooden frames), that's the cheapest and best solution.

Funny how Eye-D butchers Frontliner when it comes to production while having a completly untreated studio.
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?

To get this straight ive owned rockit 5s all the way up to the VXT 8s and now own the genelec 8030s and i can tell you from personal opinion,

The 5 for the rockits had no low end and wouldn't really recommend these, go for the 6s

i do have the genelec 8030s at the moment and they are a 5" woofer and i can tell you the bass on them for my situation is perfect... i dont really like too deep of low end butt 55hz is more than enough because you cant really even hear low end mostly feel it....

as for the vxt series i had the 8s and felt like they were too overwhelming for my small place, so i wouldnt go with those.... but the 6s were really nice had a good sweet spot if you get it just right, also what i noticed with krks is in order to get the really high quiet frequencies you are going to have to turn the volume up abit and with the 8s they were too loud for my place

you may wana look into the power output and choose your choice on how loud you are going to be able to crank them.... but overall get the 6 inch woofer the 8s are too overwhelming...you wont really even notice a major difference from 6s to 8s
