Post by sequence7 »

I was not quite sure where to post this but I hope this will be good :D

So i'm just wondering what scale(s) to use if I want a my melody to sound dark and kinda sad?

Cheers

F And F# tend to be good for this purpose but it´s still music you could go any scale and make it Dark/sad/Evil/Happy/Melancholic etc.

I don't know a ton about scales, but I would say that chord progressions and using notes outside of the current scale determine the mood of the melody more than an actual scale. As long as you are in minor, almost all hardstyle melodies are in minor. Correct me if I'm wrong.

anything minor (melancholic, but still kinda happy), melodic minor (kinda jazzy) or (my personal fav and the most eerie) harmonic minor :3

Minor modes help a lot with the atmosphere. Just be careful, some of these modes can sound a bit.... strange.

not if the chords/notes are approached correctly.
