Must have distortion and plugin for kicks

Post by sveinn95 »

What are the plugins that are must or can be really important and useful for making good and professional kick?
I have Trash, ohmicide, camelcrusher, camelphat3 and i have all the free stuff from MeldaProduction. Is there anything else that can help me get professional making kicks?

Doesn't matter, you can use only Fruity Dist for distortian, it's about how you do it.
i see you with my x-ray

yep, this. Instead of collecting plugins learn how EQ works in combination with distortion, what happens if you distort first and then EQ or EQ first and then use distortion and maybe watch some tutorials/read some manuals on what distortion is and what every knob does, because it really helps you understand the concept.

Ironically I wrote almost the same thread in the software/hardware-section some hours ago, just that mine referes to hardcore kicks and yours probably to hardstyle kicks :)

Depends on what sound you are looking for, Camel Phat and Ohmicide tend to be the fan favourites around here.

Tone 2 Filter Bank 3 has a nice Tube distortion and from frontliners tutorial Izotope Thrash seems to be a good one also.

I tend to stay clear of effects in a VST such as Sylenth because I find you can have more control over the sound after the sound has left the VST into the mixer track. You could bus the distortion and have it loop back around.

Also you can get compression distortion from most compressors. Its not all one formula, Ohmicide might sound good for a certain sound where trash sounds rubbish on that sound but sounds good on another. Its experimenting with everything.

When I started producing all I had was fl studio, the Dance Kick sample from the in built library and fruity distortion. I learnt more from that then I have with any plugin, Its learning then applying those techniques.

pffft....FRONTLINER'S TUTORIAL IS THE BASIC OF ALL BASICS!!!
In reality what producers are showing you is just the 10% of their work, only few people know how to make proper kicks a regular kick you hear takes around 4 weeks or more to get finished,in reality not a single producer is gonna show you the proper way on how to make kicks...every one has his little secret

regarding the topic:
ohmicide is a very bad option the distortion how can I say it in proper words horrible really screws up the kick and I'm not joking unless you are an expert and I'm assuming not, trash is very good trash 2 is currently much updated and the way it operates has been much better compared to the old version it has potential to beat up the logic clip distortion, venm in other words is just primary and most of the coding was absolutely ripped off from logic clip distortion I really have no clue why people pay 40 euros for something that is ripped off,Get a mac=get the real thing...

You can't make a good kick if you don't have Clip Distortion, sorry man.

phasers, flangers and reverb can be useful, not always but sometimes it gives the kick a nice sound, especially reverb. imo sony's expressFX reverb is nice.

the stereodist in Buzz effect adapter is decent for distorting, at least when you start your kick.
melda production's equlizer is good imo, much better than the fl studio stock eq's.

@ljk32, dno if serious or being sarcastic, but lets say you are serious, i've seen people on youtube make crappy kicks with both logic and fl studio. how come da daze managed to make a nice kick in fl? shockerz also makes kicks in fruity loops (at least what i saw from a studio video on youtube). the clip distortion is probably very good for kicks, but you can still use camelphat and stuff like that.
