Out of sync pattern launching in FL studio

Post by Esox »

Hello producers out there

I'm not producing my music on FL studio, but the software I use hasn't got interesting features for playing live sessions with a midi keyboard, so I'm actually wondering about exporting loops from my projects to play them in patterns in FL Studio. Since there, not that much of a big problem, but...

I tried to get in touch with what is the "live mode" in FL, and if I understood a little bit how to get patterns launched, it comes to the point that it seems not to be possible to launch patterns quarter of a second before it starts. Explanations : If I press a key on my midi controller it starts playing a pattern, but it starts out of sync, until it loops back to start over and then it's ok. :?

I saw some videos on you tube about using live mode, and read a tutorial from Image-Line, and it's said and I saw that they can trigger patterns before their real start and they start perfectly synced when it's time.

So please would you help me understand what's wrong with my method, shown on this video :

http://www.myspace.com/video/frenchhard ... /109069096

First part I try to launch all sounds synced perfectly, then I start to voluntary launch them at any time, so you can hear they are not synced.
The sound is crappy, but don't pay attention to that please...

oh, and BTW, I use MPK mini that has piano keys & pads too. Is there a way to trigger patterns using pads instead of keys, cause I did not manage to do this out too... :(

Thx 4 ur help...

could be wrong here... but i guess it's a latency problem? (response time from hardware to software, FL isn't very friendly with this)

I'm not really sure of that because the buttons on screen light up as soon as I press them on the keyboard...?

Any other suggestion ?

I think that it has something to do with your buffer length. If your buffer length is too high, your midi keyboard will get a delay, if that's what you mean. The trick is to set your buffer length as small as possible, but the disadvantage of that, is that you can run into some CPU problems like lagging and that kind of things. Maybe you want to try that and it does help you out. Cheers.

This. You could also sample everything except for your "instrument", to save CPU. ;)

Well thanks a lot for your answer :)

In fact I tried this but it did not help me. I don't think there is a problem with my system, but more with some parameters that I did not tweak well, because there ain't any latency between the moment I push on a note and the moment the it starts in the speakers. And that's exactly the problem ! (6) Because if you want to launch a 4 beat pattern(as an example), you could light it 3 beats before its starts without it to be played until the start of the next 4 beat sequence. This is what happens on videos on you tube of people using live mode. BUT, when I try to do so, the pattern starts at the precise moment when I light it, without considering if it's in phase or not with the 4 beat sequence... Absolutely getting me sick not to find a solution for that simple shit. Probably just a paramater that I should check or uncheck, or so, but don't know which one :?

Anyways thanks for your answers.

PS : About using pads instead of notes, I think I saw something on the Internet that should help : Configuring pads to act like they were notes (c5, d5, e5, ...). I will soon try this out...

Hi Guys !

I dig this post out because I Finally found the solution for my problem, but I have another question in the same way...

The solution was just to check in the drop down menu from the playlist, and under the "snap" title, the option "bar" instead of "beat". I wish I could have higher definitions such as 2 bars, 4 bars, 8 bars, etc... But that solved the problem for the moment and now I can launch a pattern while the last bar of the previous one is still running.

Well I've got another question : Is it possible to widen the column where you can see the name of the patterns ? I mean when you're in the playlist, you've got on your left a column saying "track1, track 2, track 3, etc..." and under that one when you want to use live mode you've got another column saying "pattern 1, pattern 2, pattern 3, etc...". It's this one that I would like to enlarge in order to make the whole name of the patterns readable there, not just the first letters.

Anyone can give me some help about that ?
