my hardstyle library is just a shitload of single mp3 files, that just sit in a folder without any subfolders) for me it's easier to find a certain track that way...
anyway, i used to sort my drone ambient folder that way: it still was a shitload of subfolders, but then the all have been named like "Artist - Year - Album" (e.g. Grouper - 2012 - Violet Replacements), but in ID3 tags i wrote the label name, so whenever i wanted to check all the releases of a certain label i just typed its name into "search" (i used winamp), and it displayed the whole thing...

How do you categorize releases that are collabs? Like for example: Code Black & Wasted Penguinz. That would go to Fusion Records because Code Black's name is 1st?

My music is in various folders & such. It's barely organized.

Trying to organize by Cat. Numbers now, and all I gotta say is how do you guys even keep track of which release goes in which Cat.?
Seems more organizable but a lot more of a pain to find a certain track just by looking at the release number lol

Use medialibraries like Mediamonkey, Foobar or Itunes...
I just sort my music like 2012/01/[cat id] artist - release/01. artist - track.mp3 (because that is the easiest way after downloading the latest tracks every month)
Then I make sure the ID3 tags are right and Mediamonkey sorts everything by artist, label, release, year and whatever else I want them to be sorted at. And in case all files are a mess, open them in for instance media monkey, fix all id3 tags and let mediamonkey move the files to the correct folders. If you ever decide to sort your tracks in another way, it'll only take 5 minutes (and some more for the computer to move everything).
