professional kick pitching

Post by TheDistorter »

alright so people who are familiar with pitching kicks would usually use edison or a program like cool edit pro to stretch and pitch kicks. But when you hit a certain note like 5 semitones(notes) up or down u loose the quality of the kick and it just sounds like a plastic shit.Well i'm wondering how the hell pros do it because they nearly go up like a hole scale in some tracks. Some examples for instance if you listen to code black-red planet or wastedpenguinz within you'l know what i'm talking about. If anyone knows the theory or even has any ideas it would be appreciated if you shared.

adios ;)

Cool Edit Pro Pitch + Timestretch = Success
The Pitch will only Sound good If ur kick has a good amount of distortion and clean sound.
a muddy kick with not enough distortion will sound bad with pitching ofc.

nope the kick should be normal on "G" and u pitch it from there (the wave file).
pitch > Timestretch back.
Than maybe some pitch correction with Wavelab and some wave editing and Re Eqing.
there isnt any special trick , just think logical thats all. :+

Like said above, the pros do it the same way. There is many different programs and software to use, but with most of the them you can get the same outcome.

I use Edison in Fruity Looops, and it takes me no time to pitch the kicks. Just remember if you are using FL studio to choose the setting "Resample" otherwise it would mostly sound like "Plastic Shit" as you said.

^This

I believe a lot of people use this method now

If the kick sounds like shit/is muddy on it's base note (G), it's gonna sound even worse when it's pitched

Don't think too much and be wise. It's not rocket science, it's easy and logical when you know what you're doing

You could do that. But it's way too complicated and inconvenient.

The only Guy i know who did it that way was Michel Pollen in Sky Rocket.
But well yeah, that guy is a frickin' genius anyway.

Don't know what you are talking about

your attitude sounds defeatist.. too complicated? There's nothing complicated about it, it just experience + ear, there are no tricks
