Producing is a creative work, if you don't have the creativity then you should probably not do it.
However, if it is you fulltime job, then other things comes in to play, like food on the table and pay the bills.

Take writers for an example. I know a story from a writer for a big blockbuster movie (Don't remember the name). He locked himself inside a hotel for two weeks while working on the script, turning off his cellphone just went out when he wanted to eat and so on.

Most of us who don't live on making music usually do music when we feel that we have the creativity for it. But its also harder to make music on your computer at home, lots of distractions, best way is always to get inside a studio and spend a few hours there, then you are more focused on music with no distractions.

I produce music about 7-20 hours a week, depending on my mood and how much freetime I have.
Howerver, if I had a free schedule, I would probably get up at 7am and eat my breakfest and then produce from 8 to 14, like a ordinary job.

See I don't think its a problem with creativity, but a problem with just being to lazy to go for it. Sometime I just lack motivation even though its a dream of mine to go into this business.

I'm like this, I hear producers that sit there everyday for 8 hours and just make sounds or build on a track. Usually I get uninspired after about an hour of producing. It's usually because I lack creativity with my sound design and arrangement, and never see results.

Who cares if you are inside the gap or outside the gap? Doesn't really make much difference. If you don't enjoy it in the beginning, you won't enjoy it later either. Even if you're a big DJ or whatever.

It's all about enjoying yourself. And sometimes you make small progress, and it's fun.

I make music cause I like to convey moods, feelings of ecstasy, atmospheres. I like testing things I come up with in my mind, just to see if it works, just to hear what it will sound like. I like the artistic part of it, to even out the whole and smoothen the edges (just as I like drawing portraits).

Sometimes I feel an urge to create, sometimes I don't. My tip is not to force anything, for it will only put you in a state of stress. I create the best music when I am totally relaxed and don't care.

Yeah, it's a bad problem, I wish I could enjoy it more to stay producing for longer.

See I do agree with you that you have to enjoy yourself but, I also believe that you have to put a lot of hard work to become good at something. Its hard to put in good work into something when you only do it once a week and like I said I do enjoy myself doing it for the most part. I think that all the frustrating and unpleasent moments are shit you have to endure

Hey man. I guess what you are saying is true, but I'm guessing your focus is a little misplaced. Because if you want to put more time into something, you should focus on easy work, not hard work. Try to make things easy for yourself, try to enjoy it, that's the only way you'll ever endure.

Same goes for going to the gym and lifting weights, you don't necessarly want to push yourself to exhaustion every time, but rather save yourself, and go at it in the next few days instead.

That's how I look at things at least. :)

Hehe each person has there own philosophy I guess. I just personally think that if I try my best at something I will be successful at whatever I am trying at and I guess now I am more chill about it these past couple of weeks. Somedays I try hard at it and other days I only maybe work on some stuff for an hour or so.
