Greatest Musicians of the past century?

Post by diesal11 »

I'm going to cut straight to it.
In My Opinion?

The Bee Gees

Why?
Because i'm yet to meet someone who doesn't like ONE of their songs, they played together for over 40 years (45 to be exact) and were able to adapt and change to new genres while STILL producing #1 albums and singles though various music eras.
Not to mention they only stopped because one of them died (R.I.P Maurice ♥)

I'm not saying all their music was the best, but as musicians they were the best imo.

Please don't turn this into an argument thread, and please don't just say your favorite artist. Put some serious thought into this and not just "Thera is the best musician cause he makes music for himself"

EDIT:
And there's a reason i put this in the "Other Music" section, please try to stay away from the whole EDM scene, unless you have a valid point and reason behind a EDM artist. But to me making a record label and pioneering a Genre isn't enough tbh.....
Just take it seriously and put some thought into it.

U should rather give a valid point why u want to exclude all EDM artists from this thread ? What makes rock and pop music so much better than EDM ?? For me it would certainly be an EDM artist, because i never liked non-electronic music. I wont pick one though, because i dont like to reduce music on certain names, there are many great musicians out there. People should really learn to listen to a wide range of artists rather than just fanboying a few ones ;)

I personally believe that Rachmaninoff has done soooo much for the world and is a massive inspiration to many people (including myself).

Vangelis is another name I have to mention because I find his music so emotionally deep almost like electronic classical music.

Kraftwerk should not be forgotten either because of their HUGE influence on how we perceive music today and they are after all the people who made Electronic music go worldwide :)

My personal favorite is without a doubt Matthew Bellamy (lead singer, guitarist and pianist in the British band Muse) To me he is an ENORMOUS inspiration and just his way of composing and making the live performances sound so much like the studio recordings while still revolutionizing his gerne by cross breeding progressive rock with other genres (something I like to see in ALL genres, yes Hardstyle come on I want it! :+ )

It was mainly to stop fanboying over all the typical EDM artists (Deadmau5, Skrillex and every other popular EDM artist atm) who have done very little for music in general. Yes they're at the top of their scene but that doesn't make them great musicians. It just means their good at a genre.

Also you misread me completely, First off i never said EDM artists are banned/rock & pop is better. But very few EDM artists have actually done anything to music on a large scale. And i'd rather people just leave EDM artists from the last decade out all together unless they have a valid point as to why, because of the reasons above.

Second off this isn't a "who's your favorite artist" thread, The Bee Gees are FAR from my favorite band (With or without EDM included)
But it's a thread for expressing your opinion on who has been the most successful as musician(s). Simply because there's more to it than making a few hit songs.
