Layering
What is layering? I'm trying to make a kick ATM and I've been browsing through all of the Kick Topics and a lot of people are saying stuff like "Layer the tail away from the punch" or "Layer the separate parts of the kick away from each other and work on them alone." So my question is what is layering? Also, how can I layer my sound in my DAW (FL Studio)? Thanks in advance

He even explains how to layer a kick ..

Imagine building a guitar and then tuning it and then playing it. That's what electronic music is.

When people say layering, they mean separating each sound from it's source and eqing it separately. with a kick, cut the tok & punch from the tail and set the tail to sidechain with the punch so each sound has it's own space in the mix.

So basically, he gets the basic sound out of the kick, messes with the lows/mids/hi's, then layers?TheRavestyler wrote:

If you just staple the exact same sound on another sound, do you not just raise the volume instead of change the sound?

When layering, can I use a program like Sony Vegas to split my kick into punch/tok/tail? Or is there an easier way in FL Studio. (this is where I'm stuck on, advice?)

you can split the punch and the tail in the sampler without any cutting....
