shit just got real
But more to the point. All sounds including kickdrums is just an expression of how do you perceive music. Nowadays it's quite hard to distinguish great kickdrums from bad ones since most of producers uses rather similar synthesizers and techniques so sometimes there're really just a small difference between kickdrums. But what i want to say is that you need to treat kick and bass differently, also the flow between them, how they sound togethet. Good example is Toneshifterz & Bioweapon - Dead Of The Night. There's a kick and bass, but for example listen to buildup. You have 16 bars, 8 bars is normal (let's put it so), and then on next 8 bars you have an additional crunchy distortion in triplet rhythm. Listen and see how it adds a lot of energy. It's a subtle thing but it really adds energy! And it's crucial to understand that it's possible to make really nice energetic & raw nu-style kickdrum. But like i said, bass is just as important as a kick, bass needs to have proper flow, both in sub and higher tones. In your case you know, it's just another kickdrum
