What is techno?

Ok, so I know what techno is not. It is not all EDM, and it is not Hardstyle.

But what IS it? Exactly, in terms of genre. I've been having trouble finding out exactly what the genre techno is. Examples are welcome

Its the godfather of all edm, it has its origins in 80s. It's percussion driven, repetitive music and as there exist really a lot kinds of it, it's hard to explain it generally for me. Here, check some examples.

classic techno

"modern" techno

hardtechno (schranz)

minimal techno

oh and there exists techstyle too, techno/hardstyle crossover. Which is unfortunately pretty unknown (fuck, most of it isnt even on youtube ... check for tracks like Evanti - What A Rush, Thilo & Evanti - System Addict, Stana - Found Objects (Diablik Remix) etc)

Techno is very minimal music which was invented in USA in the late 80's.

Try Richie Hawtin's (a.k.a. Plastikman) sets, they're awesome!
