1. Who are Eye-D & DJ Hidden?
Our names are Frank and Noel. We love collecting stamps, food, time-traveling, playing with our dogs and hamsters, and spending time with our friends and family.
2. Who inspires you?
We draw most of our inspiration from events and things rather than people, like our imagination, stories and folk-tales, nature; especially trees, plants, birds and animals, the carnival, masks, pizza, traditional crafts, and things that are not quite what they seem, as well as our childhood growing up in Goes.
3. What and/or who influences you the most in your style of performing and what do you love so much about the harder drum & bass?
Much of our work deals with narratives of some kind and we love finding different ways to create a story. The sets we play are very spontaneous in nature. We work with however many decks, microphones, drum machines and trumpets are made available to us. We never make mistakes, but when we do they often lead to other ideas we wouldn't otherwise have thought of. So in a way every set is a journey or an adventure, without mistakes.
4. What can we expect from you at XL21?
We will both wear a fun t-shirt that just screams that we’re somehow involved in the music business. These shirts will be hand-picked especially for the occasion. We won’t wear XL shirts, because that would be too tacky given that the event is already called PRSPCT XL. What’s next? TSHRT XL? No, not us. Think loose-fitting but not too tight. Frank will wear a cool hat, and Noel will rock a radical ponytail, sans hat, naturally. Barring any unforeseen circumstances we will show up on time for our set and we’ll finish our set a few seconds before the next DJ is scheduled to play, because people who go over their set times are very bad people and we are most certainly not very bad people.
5. Can you tell us your five favorite tracks, which you certainly will play at XL21?
We never plan anything for our sets. We like to keep everyone guessing, and most of all ourselves. It’s the only way you can be a DJ for more than 20 years and still enjoy it. The only certainties in life are uncertainty, death and taxes. Chances are good that we’ll play a few of the 29 tracks featured in our podcast, though!
