Strange Question
This isn't a kick topic and not exactly a sound design question, it's an annoying issue I've always had an am wondering if others experience it. Basically, whenever I make something, at the time I think it sounds really nice and fitting, but then when I get reviews off others, or listen to it in like 30 minutes, it will usually sound random/out of place. Again, the problem isn't really my sound design, cause I'd say it's at an okay level, the problem is more so my ears constantly tricking me into thinking that my sounds or melodies work together. So yeah, it's just coming back to hear something like a melody not working on its own, or with another melody, or some sounds not working with each other, or something like that. I hope I'm explaining it clearly.
Does anybody experience this? And does anybody have some suggestions? I've heard about getting into a habit of producing at lower volumes(which is generally a good idea) so your ears don't tire as quickly, but I'm not sure if it helps or not.

if you work pretty long on some sounds or a kick or something you will automatically start to think its good. Because your ears get kinda used to it.
Do a 15 minute break every ~90 minutes so your ears can relax.

Oh, crap, I should've explained. With some things, playing it over and over can make it sound good, but with others, the effect happens instantly, as soon as I bring in a new sound into the mix, I straight away think it sits nicely, when in reality, it sounds like shit or sounds random. So in some cases I don't think it's because I hear it over and over.
Well, i see.
But anyways, i guess if you do a break every hour or so you will still hear if it fits or not.
What do you use as monitors? Maybe they're the cause you might think it sounds good.

Umm, thanks for the reply btw, I appreciate it. I use KRK 6's, the right one is a bit faulty(it doesn't play a bit of high end, almost has if all the sound coming through it has been low passed) but I don't think that would be the cause.
This. I prefer doing a 5 minute break every 30 minutes, and a longer (15-30) after a 3-4 hours when my producing session gets longer.Jay wrote:if you work pretty long on some sounds or a kick or something you will automatically start to think its good. Because your ears get kinda used to it.

Mostly when i'm producing, I take a break of 15 minutes every hour, and one of 5 minutes every 30 mins. I don't listen to anything else. Mostly I grab a drink, talk to a friend , let the dog out, at least something wich doesn't have to do ANYTHING with music. This helps me alot, since i'm experiencin g the exact same problems as you. I think it's normal. it can be your monitors. RK's are a bit in yo face if you know what i mean.
