Sounddesign Question - Tonal FX/Hardsounds/Distorted sounds.

Post by FreakshowDJ »

Hey people!

I have a new question / topic to discuss about.

Recently I am playing a lot with samples from Vengeance etc. I enjoy this a lot, because you have total freedom. I found that with Slicex you can do a LOT of cool stuff. Now I want this to take it to another level (how obvious, i'm listening to Zatox - Another Level at this very moment). I don't want to stick with the sample stuff anymore, I want to create my own sounds. now I know what y'all gonna say: 'Dude just do what you like and what sounds good dude serious wtf dude c'mon" I do that what I like and I experiment a lot with this. What my question for you is: What do you do to make these sounds, share your tips and tricks, post links to useful YT video's, you can even post presets (although this doesn't support the creativity)

I start off:

I like to take Sylenth1, put four pulse oscillators with each 8 voices, experiment with the detune, put chorus on it, delay with very fast delay time, distort it, process it through LFOTool from XFer Records for panning or other LFO shizzle. Then EQ it, dist, compress, very often I use Sausage Fattner and export it. But last but not least: A SHITLOAD OF REVERB!!!

Just like alcoholists say: Doesn't matter what the problem is, alcohol is the answer.

Almost everything sounds better with reverb, if you use it properly. I don't suggest to use reverb on your main kick although.

Cheers, it's weekend! :D

Reverb on a main kick can really give it depth, but it should only be a subtle effect(though, very noticeable when it's removed). With all these random sound effects, my stuff is generally exported(after some processing), then timestretched, pitch shifted, placed into a granulizer, then processed again. I'll usually add reverb and delay as a final effect, rather than add it during the processing stage, it all depends on what you are looking for though.

Yeah I mostly add Reverb Delay etc as a final effect. I think I use the same method, I just make the sound with a synth, do a bit of EQ and compressing and maybe some panning and LFO effects, export it, time stretch pitch shift etc, do another bit of EQ and load it in again in Slicex and do the final EQ delay Reverb etc. But it can be fun to put reverb in it and export it and then some LFO, especially for pre verbs.
