Presence of Dubstep in other genres

Post by Lop-Sided »

I personally feel that there is simply waaaay too much dubstep influence in almost every genre of EDM now...At first I didn't see anything wrong with the influences in tracks, but now I think that it's just boring and overused. I mean, after all, when I listen to something like trance, for example, I want to hear a trance song, not a trance song with dubstep "wub-wubs" all over it.

Anyway, to show everybody how dubstep is present in many genres of music, I have composed a list of tracks from each respective genre that has been influenced by dubstep in some way.

(These aren't the only genres that include dubstep influences. I will update this list with more genres and tracks when I get the chance to.)

Hardstyle (Dubstyle)
Spoiler
D-Block And S-Te-Fan vs Deepack - The Dream Goes On (Original Mix)
(around 3:20)

Noisecontrollers vs Pavelow - Quatre Mains
(around 2:00 and pretty much the whole track)
Hard Trance
Spoiler
Neal Thomas - PyroTechno (Wragg and Log:One Remix)
(around 3:14)

Phil York & BRK3 - Traffic (SHOCK:FORCE Remix)
(around 3:58)
Trance
Spoiler
Phunpark - Midnight (Sean Tyas Remix)
(around 3:25)

Kyau & Albert - Made of Sun (Stoneface & Terminal Remix)
(around 3:16)
Complextro (Electro House + Dubstep)
Spoiler
Lucky Date - H*s and Discos (Space Laces Remix)
(around 2:45)

Hirshee - Smash the Disco
(around 0:45)
Pop
Spoiler
Flo-Rida - Good Feeling
(I guess this is a house rip-off with dubstep added...but whatever)
(Around 2:40)

Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
(Around 2:20)
Anyway, I guess I'm wondering about what you guys think about these influences in all the other EDM genres of music. Does anybody else believe that dubstep is simply invading all the other genres of music?

I didn't see the videos yet (I'm posting this on my mobile) but I agree with you 90% of the way. If true Dubstep found its way into different genres of the harder variant, I'd love it, but you get nothing new. Always the same wobbly bass with the same beat structure like "Bommmm, wubwubwub wubwubwub". Seriously, like Dubstep never had different types of beats and anything besides a generic wobbly bass? Some tracks with that, called Brostep, are actually good and producers can get creative, but for the most part: Oh dear lord change the radio station NO NOT TO WIRED 96.5 PUT IT ON A JAZZ STATION FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Hip-Hop, especially the British scene is heavily influenced by Dubstep. Kanye West sampling Flux Pavillon speaks for itself.

Is it just me or did the dubstep parts in hardstyle, hard trance and trance just not fit at all lol

I'm not a huge fan of dubstep, i don't think it fits in anywhere in the hard dance scene

To me, Dubstep only works in certain genres, but mixed with "happier" genres like Trance, Hardstyle, House, and Pop, dear lord it's a hot mess. That second Trance tune though, the Dubstep worked great with it imo and created a great atmosphere.

I don't have anything against it if it's a short break with wobbles, like that awesome Log:One & Wragg Remix...
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?

Two words : fucking annoying.
I'm not apriori against new ideas and mashing up genres, but its playing annoying how everyone makes dubstep influenced stuff because dubstep is the big thing now. Hell, where were you 3-4 years ago when dubstep was deep underground music ? Such an annoying hype. Hope it dies out soon.

And i'm not a dubstep hater, proper stuff (DMZ, Mala, Synkro etc) for the win
