That comes with time, after playing with your VST's for a while, you start to remember what wave produces a particular sound. Then, when you listen to other tracks, you start to get an idea of how they built their leads.

In the near future I'm going to explain Sylenth1 in depth for those who want to make their own sounds since there is currently no proper tutorial most of the tutorials just show you how to make the sound, but they don't explain each setting properly :)

When you do it could you explain about the thing how you can route LFO Rate to in an LFO control, if you know what I mean.. Also, could anyone show how to use a gate to get the "gate" effect on a synth? It didn't seem to be possible when I tried, Cheerz

Can you elaborate on both your questions, especially the LFO one, it didn't really make sense how you worded it.

For kicks -> What layers is a kick made off, and what does each layer add to the end result.
What are oscillators, LFO, envelopes, portamento ( meh can't think of anymore atm) and what do they do.

I've been quite busy lately with getting to know everything. And most of the things im starting to get a hang off just by trying but there's still a lot if things i dont know what they are or do. So feel free to add anythings i didnt mention.
I might do one soon, I'll let u know if I do ;D

Sure, it wasn't that clear, so what I meant by the first one is in sylenth1, where you can assign the LFO to like pitch, pan, cutoff etc, there is something you can assign it to called LFO 1 rate, and I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what that does. And with the gated synth, it's like the preset "gated hypersaw" in sytrus, or the gated synths in nexus, just how to get the gate effect. Hope that was more clear :)
