defqon isn't just mainstage and things you see from youtube...Reverse Ghost wrote: I honestly blame this on Q-Dance for switching their parties from actual parties to "experiences" where instead of being focused on making a crowd move they focus on making the most cinematic shows they possibly can. Look at videos of Qlimax or even Defqon there are so many people just standing around or holding their phones up to record instead of dancing.

Re: Unpopular opinions
While I agree with you on the part of tracks having such short drops (which I fucking despise as well) because of crowds with an attention span from a goldfish, I can't agree with your dull crowd argument. I was at parties long before social media kicked in and more than half of the people were not going full apeshit back then either. You have to understand the Dutch festival culture is like, what, more than twenty years old and we are kinda spoiled with multiple (hardstyle) festivals each weekend during the summer season, which is also the reason why I wonder what it will be like when we get our festivals back again.Reverse Ghost wrote:This is still one of my most sought after records just for how different this mix is from every other Hardstyle track from the time. May as well be a Hard Techno release![]()
Unfortunately this style and the StraightOn Black style will likely never return, as most of the Hardstyle crowd now is obsessed with hard drops for their Instagram stories.
Back on topic I honestly blame this on Q-Dance for switching their parties from actual parties to "experiences" where instead of being focused on making a crowd move they focus on making the most cinematic shows they possibly can. Style over substance. Look at videos of Qlimax or even Defqon there are so many people just standing around or holding their phones up to record instead of dancing. Who can blame then, when every Hardstyle track now only ever has a beat for two or three measures before going into another two minute buildup followed by the same drop again for 7 seconds? Reaktor is doing it right, adding some complex light arrays to their shows but not so much that it detracts from the experience of being at an actual fucking party and not an epic Disney Marvel PS4 Exclusive Cinematic Experience. I've always had more fun at Techno and Reggae parties instead of Hardstyle parties only because Hardstyle is so difficult to enjoy live anymore.

Same. Reason I hated Move Ma BodyJohn Cove wrote:I hate it when the kick/bass changes every few seconds in newer Hardstyle tracks.

Listened to Headhunterz - Dragonborn (The original one) for the first time a few days ago.
I don't understand the hype over that track.
I remember one of Q-Dance first connect streams, the commentators couldn't stop asking Heady about the next part of Dragonborn but I honestly can't see the hype in it. I suppose you have to be a skyrim fan to really see the "awesomeness" in it?

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been listenig to HS now? If you are relatively new listener, I understand, but if you are a listener for a long time now and a fan of a style, how is it really possible that someone manages not to listen or at least hear such a popular track for almost 10 years now

edit: I can assume you are more of a HC fan than HS, so in that case I can see why it is so
The DJ spins a galaxy of black vinyl, for the gods that came to dance!

So? If you like the genre but don't like a certain sound, it doesn't mean you are going to listen to everything the genre has.
I love trance and listen to it since 2003, but besides it i listen to so many different genres and there are only certain types of trance i like. If i check what won the tune of the year ASOT award last year, I never heard like 15 out of the top 20 tracks including the no.1. Dunno what's so strange about it, it's not like Headhunterz is some constant around which this genre pivots.
