Buy with a mortgage, but you can only get a mortgage with a permanent contract or with an employer's statement that he will give you a permanent contract if conditions (economy, personal situation, etc.) stay the same or a combination of both. If not, you're basically screwed if you don't have a lot of savings money and want to buy. In fact, the whole housing market is fucked up atm; prices are sky high, about 10% of the price you have to pay for yourself (for which you can't get a loan or mortgage, so with €180.000, which is the average price for a simple appartment for example, you will need about €18.000 savings money :paranoid: ) and there's loooooots of competition, so overpricing is very common. There's a huuuuge shortage on housing. We had to overbid €12.500 as well, but luckily my current appartment is going to have a lot of overprice as well. I will get about €40.000 more than what I had paid for it four years ago, so I can use a lot from that money to pay for this new house. With the 10% I have to pay and €12.500 overprice I will still have €10.000 to put in the new house for reconstruction or to pay off a small bit of the mortgage. It's not allowed to put it in your savings account as you will get in trouble with tax services.

Some people however choose to only rent as it does have some advantages compared to buying a house, like you pretty much leave whenever you want with only one month notice period, when something is broken your landlord is supposed to fix it, the government has subsidies when your wage is too low so you can more easily pay your rent and rising or decreasing house prices or not one's concern. :)

There are pros and cons of course, but I prefer to have something completely of my own and can do pretty much whatever I want with it, hence why I bought ;) Plus after thirty years, the normal duration of a mortgage, the house will be my own. On the other hand, I am fucked when we are forced to leave and sell - for whatever reason - when house prices drop again; it's sooooo much more expensive than what it is actually worth _O- But our intention is to stay here the rest of our lives, so then obviously it doesn't matter.

Okay, I'm not a house person. So bought a flat in a new house 1,5 years ago. Price was 128k+5k parking place+2k storage place on 0 floor. So in Estonia 15-20% you should pay yourself and the rest money we take loan from the bank. But we have Kredex company, that if you have kids, they will make it to 10% first pay, no matter what. So made it a lot easier. But still lots of money goes on those pappers. Went something like 3k to all sing and complete all that paper work. So now I have loan for 30years  28,5 left   But happy with me new flat on 12th floor with 4 rooms :D

Next week getting new Toyota Corolla as well (L)
i see you with my x-ray

As we go through 6-7 major crises in the West, I'm grateful for the times where I can go running at night, listen to some banging hard trance, look up at the stars and know that that special someone is just waiting for me out there.

That makes me feel good. and thank god for the fortunate life I am able to live

Damn bro :O But, are your wages not higher then either? Here a teacher's salary is around €2500-2600 for example (depends on the level of education and your own experience, but still...)

well, if you work in this area, in France, you can earn 1100/1500€ with a standard job. If you go to work in Switzerland, for the same job, you can earn around 4000/4500€
And for a teacher, i think in France you are more around 2000/2500, depends on yur level, experience..

It's always been my understanding that apartments are rentals only, with the exception of the "townhome" which can go either way.
