I wouldnt say it's cold war, its simple geopolitics. Ukraine served for years as kind of a bumper state between Russia and the west. Ukraine entering the EU would mean immediate neighborhood with the EU and the west for the first time in history for Russia, and consider Putin's superpower complex it's not really surprising to me as Russia needs Ukraine to even think of being a superpower. Anyways this proves very well that Putin doesnt care what the west thinks of Russia for a long time already. A few years ago every decision was well thought through but i think Russia has reached the conclusion, that they have enough bad image already (i mean just check the olympics, half of the world just patiently malevolently waiting for something bad to happen so they can ridicule ruskie vodka drinking janitors taking care of the olympics) and they simply decided to do whatever helps their long term interests.

It is cold war in the sense that Putin is rather loudmouthed in his actions, the US haven't been this loud since 2001-3, post 9/11 basically.
The US, being the opposing side of Russia like always are more quiet imo, could also be me hating Putin with passion.

I'm grumpier than you.
