that's right ?
A punch and tok are quite similar. From what I have heard, the punch is just deeper/harder then the tok. And they make up the first part of the kick. The tail is the disorted BWOING sound after the punch. And the sub is just a sub bass layer that sits under the kick for more power. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
Ok I think you're right.
There is so many terms, sometimes I'm lost.^^

Thanks for your response. :)

Sometimes you don't need an extra sub bass layer, good eq can counter what you lose when you distort the kick.

Imo 909 kicks are horrible, only 1 osc with almost no controll and filters, but yeah you can make it out of 909

Why do people still think music has rules to follow?

Eg: only a 909 can make proper kicks.

Thats just not true, Who minds if you sample a golfball hitting your desk and make a fucking epic kick with it? Just try find your own method what works the best for you. ;)

This. :)

It takes a long time to control it.
So thats why people think it only can be done in one way.

Occasionally i try different techniques to come up with new stuff.
Just start tweaking and listen close to your favorite tracks.
And try re-creating it to learn. (tweak - compare - tweak - compare etc etc)

Dune is great for the 909 on there, its very tweakable

I made a few good kicks with Sylenth in the past but i lost the preset and now i cant get anything to sound like it was lol

Sine wave with pitch modulation does the job ;) just select a sine wave on 1 oscillator and Pitch A (when you're on party A of sylenth) and slide the attack a little bit ''up''.
