Try everything fron chorus to reverb to tremolo effects or lfos on volume ,you'll never know what to do if you dont experiment

I think your kick is pretty solid. I'm by no means an expert on making hard style kicks, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I think the punch is pretty nice, and the character is good as well. I think the bass could be a little bit thicker/bigger. I think it's lacking a little bit on the low end.
Now here's my kick, I would love some feedback on this. I can't figure out what it's missing.
thanks

When you pitch your kick. Should the note in the melody that hits be the same as the key of the kick? Like when my kick pitches up it is in A key. So do I make sure the melody at that time is in A?
You generally want to keep your kick and melody in the same key, as a rule of thumb. You can deviate from the scale if you feel comfortable, but it is harder to make it sound good. You don't necessarily want the note that the melody hits to be the same note as the kick, because you won't create harmony this way. If you make a melody with a baseline under it, use the baseline to guide you when pitching your kicks. By having two different notes played by the kick and the melody, you create a chord. As another rule of thumb, you generally want to start on your tonic (A in an a minor scale, c in a C minor scale etc. ) for your kick, and you usually want to start on the tonic for the melody as well. You can then build your kick/melody pattern around chords. I don't know if this is clear. If you want a specific example, I could elaborate more. Hope this helps

Would you just have that sweep on one of your layers so it subtle?Shellshock wrote:also @greentech, your kick lacks that feeling of pressure and definition, no real impacting low transient on the attack, and the entire thing could use some more interesting movement IE some bell filter sweep from 700hz to 130hz,
