Dutch news report 5-15 aswel, and so do local news stations in the US. 60-70 deaths was the very first estimation that was made but afaik the death toll isn't going to be that high, which, judging by the devastation, is a miracle.

or we can just ask a mod to merge these two?
as I've posted in some other thread, looks like the police knew that there's gonna be an explosion at this fertilizer plant, so maybe they took some measures and evacuated most of the people?Fission wrote:but afaik the death toll isn't going to be that high, which, judging by the devastation, is a miracle.

Maybe I misunderstood you, but the police evacuated the people AFTER the explosion, because they're afraid of some other ones later (afaik).Digital Audio Tape wrote: as I've posted in some other thread, looks like the police knew that there's gonna be an explosion at this fertilizer plant, so maybe they took some measures and evacuated most of the people?

well, i don't have facts, that was just my guess. the thing is, I've read in the news earlier this morning that the police actually knew about the explosions-to-come, so the most logical thing to me seems to be evacuating people from the area before the explosion happensThe Convicted wrote:Maybe I misunderstood you, but the police evacuated the people AFTER the explosion, because they're afraid of some other ones later (afaik).Digital Audio Tape wrote: as I've posted in some other thread, looks like the police knew that there's gonna be an explosion at this fertilizer plant, so maybe they took some measures and evacuated most of the people?

Well that does't make any sense and I'd love to see an article that states that.
