it could be a sample of a flute played or pitched at a low note, or a synthesized one I can't tell
but after listening again, it may be some kind of a heavy detuned FM screech.

Yes, I can hear it clearly. In older tracks playing around with samples by stretching them and chopping them up was very common, so I suggested that. :pacman:

On second listen I can admit that it is likely that the sound you are refering to might be taken from a flute to begin with and then pitched down and processed with 3rd party FX, but it's not directly easy to guess without being able to try it yourself (which I can't at the moment).

Yea. I've heard this sound in other artists recordings
I was hoping there was a name for it...
